Where I was it was very cold over the Easter week-end. This seems to clobber the mpg on diesels even on a run after the engine has warmed up. Don't have any data to prove this ... but it seems to happen !!

good post and excactly what i do , accelerating down hill is almost free speed then just looking ahead you can adjust were as the cruise cannot do that.
i will cruise at 65 ish then gently creep up to anything up to 90 going downhill then let it just ease off on the flat again.
