Unfortunately, I only got the iPod MOST adapter; must have cost more for the e93. The only disadvantages are that every time you go back to list, like back to all playlists or all artists, it goes back to "A" or the top. Playlists load immediately; if there's an album or artist that you know you like to access, just create a "playlist" of it. I'm gonna have to do some iTunes reorganizing for this purpose. Also, as previously noted, loading albums or artists takes a while--for my not full Nano, it's like 20-30 seconds. It could be substantially longer for someone with 10's of GB of music. BTW, no one at the dealer can explain this; they're really uninformed. Once your albums or artists are loaded, they are readily accessible, even if you turn off the car and restart; however, again, each time back to the top/"A". Obviously, I can't use anything other than an iPod, but that's what I have. Still haven't returned the Dension, but I think I'm pretty satisfied with what I got and I still have Sirius. Don't know if it's worth the hassle of opening up the dash again and gambling that the car is coded for a CDC (but since the BMW iPod emulates a CDC, I think it is.) I'm gonna try to get confirmation next week when I bring the car back so they can fix/replace the glovebox that now won't open since the install. I got it open twice and ran the cable out the back corner so I can use the thing. The Dension thread seems to show a little better functionality, more like the iPod.
BTW, the sound is great. Great stereo separation (Pink Floyd Money, Cars Moving in Stereo intros really show that). Another thing lacking seems to be FF/RW, unless I am missing something. My instruction book is locked in the glovebox!

I've done lots of searching in the forum and I'm still not clear about this:
Is this USB/iPod interface retrofit kit (Part# 65410427467) installable in US/Canadian E92s (pre-March 2007 build) with iDrive and the standard audio system (non-Logic7, which I believe BMW NA calls Professional Radio in their marketing material)? I’m specifically interested in the USB interface, as I don’t use an iPod device. After using a Zune, there is no going back to iPod for me. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

damn, I was all excited to see USB retrofit.. turn out to be another MOST.
I've heard so many good things about the USB interface compared to the limitations of the Ipod MOST interface. |

Check out my install of the Dension Gateway 500: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84125
Even though it works by using the CD-changer source, I think it overcomes some of the bmw ipod MOST adapter limitations: * It doesn't take long to "tag" ipod music files and loads folders pretty instantly. * It doesn't require you to go through CD1-6 for functions (you can for add'l features dension has), as you actually have a "ipod menu" to scroll through. * You can also use usb hard drives and flash memory in addition to the ipod dock cable and an aux in. * Sounds quality is excellent. * Has an "A-Z" select when your artists/albums/songs are many pages. Check it out. Its been working well for me.

The USB retrofit listed in this thread was NOT listed for the Professional radio. I believe that one person who thought he was getting USB ended up without it. |

Which interface are you asking about? The original dealer installed is ONLY for IPod. The 6FL factory installed interface (and presumably the new retrofit in this thread) will work with iPod (and iPhone) and any MP3 device that can be used as a USB disk drive. There are no specific phone USB functions supported. The phone interface is via bluetooth.

I want this bad. I would love an easy solution that is not the MOST interface.

iPod Retrofit for E91
I am new to the forum, but have been keeping an eye on anything relating to iPod retrofit. I emailed BMW this week based on this thread and have had it confirmed that the iPod retrofit will work for my E91 with Professional Nav, I have pasted the core of the email below and can confirm that I am having this fitted on Friday this week and will feedback the results!
Thank you for your email to BMW Customer Information. We are pleased to confirm that we do supply a fully integrated retrofit kit to allow you to connect an iPod to your BMW. Over the past 18 months, BMW has been working in close co-operation with Apple in order to create an iPod connector solution which will allow full integration of the iPod MP3 player into the new generation of BMW models. The result of this close relationship is an advanced connector system which allows full iPod functionality via BMW’s innovative i-Drive control. This allows display of the iPods’ musical content onto the vehicles on board display (dependent on vehicle specification), or directly onto the radio display with control via the audio system or multi-function steering wheel (if equipped). The new iPod interface will allow connection of the Apple iPod, iPod nano, iPod mini and iPod video. The music stored on the iPod (up to a 15,000 songs) can be played via the audio system whilst also providing a charging facility for the iPod’s internal battery. By selecting genres, artists, albums or play lists or Pod casts, it is possible to access your entire music collection at any time. The iPod interface supports the following functions: • Playback of all tracks stored in the iPod • Operation of the iPod interface via i-Drive controller, multi-function steering wheel or radio • Track search by artist, album, play list or genre using the on-board monitor or radio display • Podcast playback • SC/SCAN: Play the tracks in the current list for 10 seconds each • RND/RANDOM: Random playback of all tracks stored in the iPod • RPT/REPEAT: Repeat the current track • Track jump: Jump to the next or previous track • Fast forward • Display of detailed information about the current track (artist and time index) • Charge the iPod battery The iPod interface can be connected with the following equipment: - E87/E90 Professional radio (SA663), Business navigation (SA606) or Professional navigation (SA609) - E6x Business radio, Professional radio (SA663), Business navigation (SA606) or Professional navigation (SA609) car. The iPod connector is located in the glove compartment in all vehicles. Once connected to the iPod unit it can be stowed away without the need for any further interaction. If the iPod interface is retrofitted to a car with a BMW CD changer (SA672), the CD changer must be disconnected at the CD Changer first. It is not possible to operate the BMW CD changer (SA672) and the iPod interface at the same time. Prices for the kit are as follows: Part number Model Description RRP inc VAT 65 41 0 412 881 E87, E90, 91, E92, E65 £195.00 65 41 0 412 881 E60, E61, E63, E64 without CDC (SA672)/(SA694) £195.00 65 41 0 415 655 E60, E61, E63, E64 with CDC (SA672)/(SA694) £195.00 Hope this helps. |

Sorry, should have read the thread completely, you are right I think it is MOST and not the 6fl / usb option but I understood from my dealer that is a complete "no no". Either way just going to be happy to connect up my iPod directly including charging as the Aux in is usefull but only up to a point! Cheers. |

Just back from BMW dealer, they should have installed the USB retrofit but they installed the 'classic' ipod interface instead.
They gonna redo the job in 3weeks. Now, at first, I was very disapointed but now playing with the classic interface I do not find it that bad for my usage of it... what's the main driver to go for USB if you only plan to use it with ipod no usb stick no usb drive ? I've been searching a lot on that subject and still I cannot make up my mind.
