Update:
Car is at a main BMW dealer now. Quoted work is: 1. Additional Water Pump (114EUR) - is this a common failure? 2. "Palpeur de vitesse" this translates as speed sensor, but the part no. (34526762769) - suggests this is the famous ABS hydro unit (463EUR) 3. Cable IBS (135EUR) 4. Alternator (551EUR) Plus bits and bobs and labour... Quote also states "subject to damage of other pieces caused by over voltage (16v)". Oh dear. Fingers crossed! I've asked if its definately all the issues, as I'm concerned that its just the alternator giving spurious faults. I guess from the posts above if the alternator has gone faulty it will likely have damaged the IBS.

After replacing the battery and checking the ibs cable the lights abs, dtc, run flat and red cog continuing to come on everyday after about 2/3 miles so I brought a front and rear abs sensor one of each and fitted the n/s rear sensor 1st but the lights were still activating, fitted the n/s front sensor and completed a 130 mile round trip with the car left overnight before the return and no lights, next day the lights came up once, went out this morning 50 mile trip nothing at all runs lovely.
I cleared the codes last Saturday and checked for any codes tonight with a Peake Research code reader and its showing no codes at all, where as before I had 18 codes, seems very strange. |

Back from garage, all working well. The bill smarted a bit but never mind.
I had the gearbox ATF fluid changed at the same time - including a new pan/filter/mechatronic sleeve etc. - I must admit it feels much smoother than it used to, the slightly heavy changes have gone and it feels like it used to. Car has 105,000 miles - its been said many times, but it does seem an ATF change is a good idea on these cars, ignore the "filled for life" official line.
