I have the receipts for the service on the BMW and the garage it was done at but they didn't stamp the book, shall I just write them in? Because I have the receipts, wud BMW accept this on a warranty claim?

If those receipt are from a BMW approved garage then no problem.
If not, you are not covered.

Aslong as you can prove that the servicing has been carried out in accordance to the BMW service schedule then you are fine. It does not have to be carried out by an BMW Approved Service Centre or Main Dealer.

Send the service book off to get stamped is what i would do too.

European Block Exemption rules mean manufacturers can’t invalidate your guarantee for not using a franchised dealer – as long as the garage follows the maker’s service schedule and uses original equipment parts.

More info here

Thanks for shedding a bit more light on that.
Its an hassle, having to go back in time to find what parts were used.

Hi All,

Does this problem with the chain affect the 2007 E92 320i engine and does this car have a chain?

Regards,

Gary

Its basically shit, isn't it?

They knew there were issues because they redesigned the bloody thing - check the parts list.

And they continue to not support the purchaser when it falls apart.
Tsk tsk.

Wheels cracking
HPFP failing
DI engines coking up at low miles
OBD2 security failed and so many cars stolen
Engines eating themselves

I honestly LOL when someone points a finger at the little Reno.

Where will it end?

So any on care to draw up a list on the best and the worst engines. What another kick in the balls from BMW. Some of these engines are having a race amongst themselves to see what can fuck up first. Turbos clutches flywheels timing chains. Really is sickening and makes you think twice about buying one.

I thought they changed the location of the timing chain on the lci 330d's as well? But I guess they are not prone to failure as the N47 ?

I have a pre lci 320D, that is not impacted by this shoddy design but it has a weak Mitsubishi turbo, there is a some bloody weakness in every design, swirlflaps on E46 remember ?

I don't think I'd buy another BMW. My first was a 2.5 E46, 140,000 and it ran perfect, no issues in the 5 years I owned it. Now the E90's...

My first was a 320si, had no end of trouble with it running lumpy, coilpacks were changed, valve clearances set. All by BMW who couldn't cure it, after research I think the cylinder liners were cracked - common fault on an engine you'd think was bullet proof! So I thought go with something you would have thought BMW 'can' make spot on, a 4 pot diesel. Next the 318d, no problems yet but risk of dpf failure, turbos are iffy, timing chains and of course flywheels. Don't I wish I'd stayed with the e46!

BMW have changed something!!!!!!

I filled in an online form before for a warranty form and it accepted it and i got a quote, about 2 weeks ago.

Now I just tried again and it won't accept my attempt. I only get the BMW emergency assistant option.

They must of upped the mileage limit or something i was typing in before 320D 2007, 53000 miles which my car has done.

Obvious influx of warranties.....

Nah, they upgraded the software to detect and deny warranties on any cars with N47s.

Ok, although when I was at the dealers and was talking to the warranty guy, he said when they make a claim about something ( I didn't mention anything about mine having a problem) they photocopy the log book to send to the warranty company With the claim. So if they see my book only with a BMW service at 20k and an indie at 50k won't they complain it's gone too long without a service?

Shouldn't it of had a Service at 38k ish?

Don't want to buy a warranty and get stung? Can I just say it was serviced to BMW spec's (as I always do anyway and more) ? I don't understand the legal.

At the end of the day the cars done 56k and it's rattling, not mega amounts but enough to concern, and I want to be either warranted and wait till it gets bad or just save up for a indie BMW specialist quoted me 2k for updated parts fitted..

Cheers

Street park in Salford for a bit.

The OBD2 fault can fix the timing chain issue if you are insured.

It must be cheaper to buy a lump from a breakers out of the newer car - there are hundreds on ein'sers about?

Quite.
My 318d was on lease - never any trouble but relieved its gone TBH. Never fixed the clutch judder from new, a bit crap.
In-laws already having a lot of error light and engine issues on their E93 320i - so not happy.
My old 335i seems to have vanished off all radars so perhaps that went bang?

Anyhow, I juts don't see anything like this on the Merc forums at all.
Not such an exciting brand however, but the engine reliability is right up there with the Japs.
S.

More than likely, Vauxhall have just refused manufacturers warranty on my daughters car because the previous owner didn't have it serviced on schedule - fortunately for her, the dealer she bought it from seems to be honouring it because they advertised it as having "balance of manufacturers warranty". I would certainly check with the warranty provider before parting with any money
