I wonder also if the tire doesn't contribute a bit to the fuel consumption number. I recently (about 3 months ago) replaced my RFTs with PSS's and have noted a roughly 1 mpg hit in my combined figure. I have tracked religiously with Fuelly since I bought the car.

The rolling resistance of the PSS's does seem to have a slight impact.

Don't get me started on crappy diesel, either. I fuelled up at a station other than my usual one a few weeks ago and lost about 5 mpg on my tank under the same driving conditions!

I'm sorry and I apologize. I just figured that if I posted this in a BMW specific forum and in a section where people most likely have the same exact car, that you would be able to look at the pictures I provided and figure out that it wasn't a picture of a full tank or lifetime reading. Hmmm...if I remember correctly, it was two 26 mile trips. And I didn't think that an explanation was needed for it when the two trips yielded a 10mpg difference. The pictures were simply there for comparison.

This is why forums can be such a pain:

Me: Anyone know where I can get some brushed aluminum trim?

Troll: Why do you want that? Brushed aluminum sucks. You should get maple wood trim instead. Unless you like ugly sh*t in your car. You probably do since you want that ugly a$$ trim. Good luck!

Normal human being: Look on www.trimwizard.com. They have a lot of different styles for our cars. I bought some there and it was exactly what I wanted.

Me to troll: I didn't ask for your opinion. I simply wanted to know where to get it, not if you like it or not. Did I post a poll? Because I don't remember posting a poll.

Troll: Lighten up man! (basically saying "I know I was a dick for no reason, but get over it because these are forums and I can say what I want and make people not want to ask questions which ruins the point of the forum).

Me to normal human being: Thanks for having a good level of reading comprehension and easily understanding the simple question I posted. You obviously read the post before you blurted out your reply and was able to help me instead of collect a higher number on your post count. Way to make the forums work like they are supposed to. Because of people like you, I don't have to type long annoying posts to explain to people why what they say is annoying and useless and not what forums should be used for.

Well (as you likely already know) the specs on these two wheels are exactly the same...
F 18x8 ET34. 11.23kg
R 18x8.5 ET 37. 11.93kg
...And come with the same size tires, thus, unless there was some HUGE discrepancy in tread depth, I would believe your skepticism in your dealers remarks to be well-based. Unfortunately, this also rules out the wheels as a possible culprit unless you changed the rubber significantly which I don't believe you did based on your previous post about the tires.
Nope. You are correct. Stock runflats.

FWIW (and its worth nothing as I am but an Internet stranger),I understand what you are saying, but I think some of your responses have been a bit brusque. I think most folks are attempting to be helpful and no one has taken the thread too far off track. Curbing the negativity tends to make participation in a thread much more pleasurable.
I think most people are trying to help, but I also think telling me "your mileage is normal" is the same thing as saying "you don't have a problem you idiot". If I want to hear that, I'll go back to the dealer. "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all", right?

Quote:
I seem to remember you researching tunes and I believe you were running JBD at some point (based on your post history). Are you still running JBD? I see no mention of it in this thread, thus I assume you are not still running it but--If so...
  • since what mileage have you had it plugged in?
  • Has it been unplugged at any point during or directly preceeding your sample period?
  • Have you tried removing it for a few tanks to see what affect it has on your mileage?
I put the JBD on a week or two after I bought the car and it stays on unless it goes to the dealer. I did remove after this for two tanks of gas and got the same results with it off.

Some additional questions...
  • Do you log any other data beyond gas mileage? Most folks do not, but this can be helpful with getting to the bottom of such matters as those you are describing. I often find myself wishing I had access to more historical data for my vehicle.
  • Ever been on a dyno? See any degradation there?
I got the Torque app and hooked it up a couple times, but haven't collected much form it. I need to research a little better and figure out what I need to look for. I am open to suggestions.

Thanks for your polite reply. And thanks to Mark M for being helpful and understanding.

Interesting. Everything I read says "Replace those runflats and you will see a mpg increase. They are heavy." I just bought some non-runflat tires to try out. I hope it doesn't get worse! Thanks for the info.

Forums are just another way of human communication. Humans are diverse. There are brilliant, smart, dumb and down right stupid humans. Even within each category there are those willing to help and those who just don't care to. Our goal as OPs is to get those brilliant guys willing to help to post. We have no control of what other people want to post, and that's ok. Being unkind to those who we think are not helpful is the perfect way to keep the helpful ones from posting.
As I said, it's just like any other thing in life. Oh yes, we all want to live in a perfect world where people do what we want them to do. But as it is, we all need to learn how to focus on the relevant things and set the rest aside. If we are not ready to do just that, we're gonna have a bad time. Sulking on a public forum about public forums is not going to help your cause.

I have logged every mile and every tank I have driven. What do you want to see?
