Pretty muched owned hpde1&2 at recent nasa event. One session i started pole with tons of high hp cars. Was only passed by a well driven m5. Moral is it will embarrass a lot of poorly driven high hp cars. After 10 track days it's a common theme. Many 'man this thing is impressive. What have you done to it?' type comments.

In contrast, my F30 335 sportline struggles with high oil temps and I feel power reduction. M sport is mandatory for the 335 to get the extra cooling. Aftermarket non RFT are also mandatory. Other RFT compound might be better but the contisportcontact5 on my car were not at all up for track use. they started chunking in 1 session and got very greasy right away.

So the electronic limited slip differential is only active when DSC is off? That's strange.

ive been tracking a bone stock 328i (even on the stock runflats) with the zf8hp. like any stock road car in the class, itll tend to understeer rather than oversteer, but imho the f30 chassis with stock setup is superior in rigidity and feel to the e90 series stock. the stock suspension is as 'soft' as youd expect, but certainly not bad by any stretch of the imagination. it does feel a bit spongey with rapid directional changes, but am sure that can be cured by a suspension change. same as the op, the biggest thing ive noticed imo is that its much easier to hammer in consistently fast lap times, and the car feels much more usable/controllable at the limit.
n20 is strong (yay for no limp mode, even in 40 degrees celcius heat!) and the tranny is solid (id expect it to be given that its the same gearbox used in the 24hr nurburgring). given its a dd, the only thing id do is upgrade the pads (the stock calipers are fine - from memory the bimmerworld guys also run stock calipers in the ctscc?) plus pss rubber, and maybe throw money at some arbs. I wouldn't run a tune for longer track days, as I feel the power delivery of the stock map suits the stock suspension setup more especially for midcorner-exit speed. if going down a full track build, for a 6hr style regularity event (or even 2hr for that matter) my gut feel is that an f30 328i with a sorted suspension would be a more consistent performer than the e90 equivalent. then again, its probably more a reflection on the driver than the car |
