NYC can be really cold or reeeeaaaaally warm, is going to depend of you basically, if you are open to make friends, you can meet people everywhere, even have loong convos with random people on the subway, or in the streets.

But if you are all the time, with ur headphones looking to the floor, and scared about everything, of course u wont have any friends.

im not from NYC, im not even from this country, and i moved to NYC 6 years ago, first week i felt kinda intimidated maybe a bit scared (i didnt even speak english at that time)
and just decided to go for it and be part of the NYC and i love it!!!

now i feel other cities are boring lol

If you are around here, just let us know

Good luck and welcome to the big apple

By the way, you going to see a lot of crazy people lol, no, for real, that is one thing that shocked me, a lot of people really nuts, doing crazy stuff, talking by theirself...
Dont be scared and take that as a part of the NYC life

Thank you for your acceptance

Where are you from? I've been to NYC a few times within the past 8 or so months, but only for a day or two at a time. It's a great city, don't get me wrong, but it's always kind of intimidating moving to another place alone. I'm really friendly but I feel that NYC is one of those cities where you have to know someone to know another.

Do you know any guy that types/talks the way I do??? I mean... my screen name is PANDACUTIEJ!!!! Well, to be fair, most of the Great lakes section guys thought I was either a 1). gay guy or 2). troll before they actually met me in person.

I need something close to UES. I have personal business that puts me in contact with Cornell Med. School every 2 weeks and I'd need to be able to cab there at a decent rate. I've already decided to sell the E. I love her but I don't need/can't handle her at in my life right now. Plus, all she does is depreciate.
honestly then you want the lower east side for the bars and night life. and the hop the 456 train to cornell.

if you want manhattan and at affordable rate, this is ur best option.

Coming to the big city !! Nice what is your business going to manhattan? Personally, living in the city, I wouldn't need a car. Everything there is pretty much designed so you don't need a car, plus traffic is unbearable.

If you don't have to live in manhattan and can still have a car, I'd suggest looking around all the boroughs, no one has mentioned Staten Island, but were a nice group of people here !

Anyways welcome, and you shouldn't have a problem making friends. Don't let your guard down though. Good luck !

+1 As a matter of fact if you want that NYC vibe Astoria Queens is nice esp in the summer. Despite the fact that there is lots to do in NYC I think its overrated. Paying 3k/month for an apt in some places is for the birds. But if youre a hipster and can afford it more power to you.

All you need is Craigslist.org Cutie

Do a search for Upper East Side.

You can find everything from cheap month to month apts to people looking to hang out. I wouldn't recommend the latter. I live in the BX and work at Mt. Sinai in the UES.

I'm moving to NYC from MI in October. A little intimidating since I've never moved outside MI and also because I don't have many friends in NYC! Anyway, I'm looking at apartments in the UES, UWS, and the Financial District. Do you guys have any good recommendations on what there is to do in NYC? I'm interested in... how does one go about making friends? I only have 1 good friend in NYC that works more hours than I am awake.

Thanks cuties, in advance.
Xoxoxoxoxoxoxox

You absolutely do not want to move to the financial District. That place is far and dead at night, not a very fun place to be. And the West side is ok. but it kind of sucks going crosstown). The UES is fine.

I suggest an outer borough (queens/brooklyn in particular) to keep your car. Otherwise you are looking at 3-400/month to park in manhattan. But if that expense doesn't sound so bad, having a car in the city is managable.

Lol at this thread.

If you are anything close to your online personality in person, you will definitely make friends quick. As far as meets a good number of ppl show up without a car. It's your interests that make you an enthusiast not what you drive.

Also, EE ftw.

Im guessing your not looking in manhattan anymore since its expensive? (if I am wrong then sorry, i didnt read the thread)...anyway my gf is looking for two girls to fill two rooms in her 4 bedroom apartment on 67 wall street...and they need two people ASAP!

its a luxury building with concierge, gym, laundry, etc....annndddd the rent is CHEAP

$950...

lmk if you're interested and I will put you in touch with her, its literally the best deal if you wanna live in NYC...as far as FiDi being dead its not a big deal, all the trains are there are its very easy to get to all the poppin spots, in fact its easiest to do so from FiDi than most other places in NYC cause EVERY train line is down there

here is an add my friend put up, shes a clown...P.S. I did my UG in Mech E but we can still be friends possibly :-)
