Really? Where do you work? Every time I go to NY I'm always at Cornell Med. School or the HSS.

NYC can be really cold or reeeeaaaaally warm, is going to depend of you basically, if you are open to make friends, you can meet people everywhere, even have loong convos with random people on the subway, or in the streets.
But if you are all the time, with ur headphones looking to the floor, and scared about everything, of course u wont have any friends. im not from NYC, im not even from this country, and i moved to NYC 6 years ago, first week i felt kinda intimidated maybe a bit scared (i didnt even speak english at that time) and just decided to go for it and be part of the NYC and i love it!!! now i feel other cities are boring lol If you are around here, just let us know Good luck and welcome to the big apple By the way, you going to see a lot of crazy people lol, no, for real, that is one thing that shocked me, a lot of people really nuts, doing crazy stuff, talking by theirself... Dont be scared and take that as a part of the NYC life |

Where are you from? I've been to NYC a few times within the past 8 or so months, but only for a day or two at a time. It's a great city, don't get me wrong, but it's always kind of intimidating moving to another place alone. I'm really friendly but I feel that NYC is one of those cities where you have to know someone to know another.

Coming to the big city !! Nice what is your business going to manhattan? Personally, living in the city, I wouldn't need a car. Everything there is pretty much designed so you don't need a car, plus traffic is unbearable.
If you don't have to live in manhattan and can still have a car, I'd suggest looking around all the boroughs, no one has mentioned Staten Island, but were a nice group of people here ! Anyways welcome, and you shouldn't have a problem making friends. Don't let your guard down though. Good luck ! |

+1 As a matter of fact if you want that NYC vibe Astoria Queens is nice esp in the summer. Despite the fact that there is lots to do in NYC I think its overrated. Paying 3k/month for an apt in some places is for the birds. But if youre a hipster and can afford it more power to you.

All you need is Craigslist.org Cutie
Do a search for Upper East Side. You can find everything from cheap month to month apts to people looking to hang out. I wouldn't recommend the latter. I live in the BX and work at Mt. Sinai in the UES. |

You absolutely do not want to move to the financial District. That place is far and dead at night, not a very fun place to be. And the West side is ok. but it kind of sucks going crosstown). The UES is fine. I suggest an outer borough (queens/brooklyn in particular) to keep your car. Otherwise you are looking at 3-400/month to park in manhattan. But if that expense doesn't sound so bad, having a car in the city is managable. |

Lol at this thread.
If you are anything close to your online personality in person, you will definitely make friends quick. As far as meets a good number of ppl show up without a car. It's your interests that make you an enthusiast not what you drive. Also, EE ftw. |
