I've looked for alternatives to the DM flywheel - the one linked to above is interesting, but I was hoping for something that doesn't introduce as much NVH (as I'm assuming the JB Racing does, due to the description, and weight).

Are there any such alternatives? I know my clutch's live only has so much more.

To the original poster, I hear where you're coming from - and I've gone through the water pump issue, as well as coils, but in the 40k I've owned mine, it's been pretty dang reliable. I'm hoping to make it well over 200k.

I think most of them are going to be aluminum or at least significantly lighter than stock. the DMF is probably 40+lbs and even a steel SMF is going to be 20lbs at most. Some increase in NVH is likely unavoidable.

I don't really like ECS but it looks like there's a steel SMF made by Valeo:

Yeah I got the Valeo one from ecstatic tuning and there is increased NVH but it's only noticeable with the windows open. I didn't weigh it but it's supposed to be OE weight. It sounds so good shifting at redline.

And careful the link that hassmachine gave only fits 325i and 328i. Not 330i.

A few things:

- how is the noise more noticeable with the windows down? Wouldn't it be more noticeable with the windows closed as the cabin is quieter?

- How would a single mass fly wheel of similar weight to the OEM DM unit sound any different at redline?

Well it's a small chatter. That comes out from the bottom of the car so you cant really hear it unless you open the windows. The chatter only happens in neutral with the clutch depressed and gets a little louder with the A/C on.

And maybe it sounds louder at redline because there's no rubber to insulate the sound? You have to hear how it to know what I'm talking about but it sounds so much nicer and louder. I'll see if I can record it when I have some time.

When you shift during normal driving it sounds like a normal clutch.

$2740 all said and done. Using all Original BMW parts, etc. It seems steep to me as their labor rate is $124/hr as well. I know they have an awesome rep and do good work, but damn.
Silly price. I got an $800 labor quote from an ase certified tranny shop. Oem is ok but not needed. Upgrade for cheaper with aftermarket or get parts from one of our oem vendors cheaper like getbmwparts.com

As for noise I have a motiv 1000hp dual disc clutch and smf. Little clutch chatter at idle in neutral but not much. I upped my idle rpm to 800 and it quieted down. Once engaged it sounds oem.

Lots of good info here - what I'm having trouble finding is a SMF for the 2006 330i - maybe my Google foo isn't so good? If anyone actually has one for an e90 330i, a part number/vendor that would be great!

Thanks,
Kevin M.

it was just an example. The flywheel should fit but that's using the wrong clutch/pp - I assume the 330i clutch has a bit more capacity than the 330i.
