They failed to get full penetration on the weld in that location. The O2 Bung is a pretty low stress item, I would not be concerned, but I would consider inspecting the other welds. The protrusion of the O2 sensor does not *seem* as though it would create an issue for you.

To be honest with you, I don't have experience with your V2's so I wouldn't be suprised if it improved. But the fact that revisions had to be made to V1, even though V1 was claimed to have perfect fitment at the time should tell us something.

We had over 600 sold of the V1's with less than a 3% defect rate.
There were a few fitment issues towards the end of the batch due to an issue with the jigs at our fabricator but it was resolved with the V2's. When we discovered that we needed a new set of jigs, we decided to enhance the pipe routing on both the short and long pipe to ensure easier install and increase the tolerances a bit. The the cast v band mouth also helps promote better flow and consistency with fitment. |

Well FFTEC just installed the latest batch of VRSF DP's without a hitch, rattle or O2 sensor reading issues.
I was a little surprised to see the sloppiness of the internal o2 bungs, but when you look at the external welds on the same o2 bung, the look great and solid. Fitment is spot on, no rattles and I got some increased HP with my E85 Tune. If you want perfect cosmetic welds everywhere on part you never see once installed, pay 2.5x for something else.

Are people really concerned about the spot welds on the inside? As long as the weld on the outside is good, you're good to go. Worried about the o2 sensor heating up? It has to heat up to work.

Identify the design requirements then determine if it meets requirements. Pretty isn't better, it's pretty. You could do a full penetration fillet on the inside, then hand file and polish it smooth and that'd be about the prettiest thing possible but it doesn't make it meet the design requirements any better.
So if you're not a welding expert... and you don't understand nor have you identified the design requirements.... really what's left is just opinionated conjecture. |
