OK, here is my problem:

1. Called Passport BMW and got a quote $1,000 below MSRP
2. I have a trade in worth about 21-22K
3. If I sell my car to CARMAX, I'll have to pay tax (6% in FL) on a sale price ($2,400}
4. If I trade in, I'll pay tax on the diference between sale price and trade in price. This is about $1,200
5. Trip to Greenville will cost me about $500
6. So 500+1,200=1,700
7. I would need to get at least 2,500 below MSRP to make it worthwile
remember that I have to put about 800 miles on a car as well to get it back to FL

I guess that's how dealers protect themselves. Florida BMW dealers are full of s**t man. They act as if they are doing me a favor.

Yuly, pluckydc? What happened to $500-700 over at Passport? It goes to show that not one deal is the same as someone elses. That is unless it's ED maybe.

Looks like I didn't have to make a phone call after all.

e90im, if you really want to drive a hard bargain, you could at least rizzo your way into a deal by sending queries across SoFla and keeping your finger's crossed.

Oh, and it's not that dealers are protecting themselves. That would be considered collusion which is illegal. It's apparent that the market is really around $1000 +/- off for a 328i coupe and perhaps a bit more on a 335i coupe. If you want to find that deal in the rough, you're gonna have to take some extra time to get it. How much is your time worth devoting yourself to this process? What else could you be doing than shooting emails all over the place to save more instead trying to make more at what you're already doing?

I could get more off MSRP at Passport. That was their 1st offer. The CA that I talked with said that he will do whatever it takes to put me in the car. But even with 2,000 of MSRP i would save very little by paying full sales tax and going to NC.
For anybody that's in Maryland area, I strongly suggest Charles Walker from Passport BMW.

I see tour point about spending $40K on a car and then trying to save a buck or two. What pissed me off was that my local dealer was not interested to make a sale. It is just a terrible way to earn customer loyalty.

I think any CA will do whatever it takes to get a client in the car... I know I do. Ultimately, the decision is not his to make as to what to sell the car for. I like that... their first offer. Why not make an absolute offer and skip the back and forth rigmarole? After the third or fourth offer, there should be a prize for hanging in there to the end.

I take it you mean SC and not NC for PCD.

I don't really think it's that they're not interested in making a sale. Rather, they're interested in making a sale at MSRP. Apparently, they may have enough customers coming in the door and have a captive enough market to not have to discount much or anything at all. That also it makes it logistically burdensome for some clients who want to pay less.

Okay, so I have many clients that cross state lines to let me help them buy a car, but in the majority of those cases, it's 80% because they simply want to and the other 20% because I offer competitive and fair pricing. There's just some markets like DC/Maryland and SoCal where competition is so intense and there's such a density of centers that they can sometimes get into a price war and wittle each other down with pricing. Some markets don't play that game.. Texas, FL are good examples. If you don't like the price, you have to go out of your way, drive quite a distance, send a blast of emails, make alot of phone calls, for a $1,000 more off or $15-30 a month on a lease? Time versus money.. hate the cliche, but it's true.

Call them up again, contact the internet sales dept and tell them that that Passport BMW was recommended. Say that multiple people got great deals. tell them you part of the e90post.com crew

do you really have to pay tax if you sell your car, that crap, i dont think no other state does that

Get a rental car for national, i got a quote for $125 one way trip (500 miles one way) plus your hotel stay is free

list your car on craigslist, i sold my 325i for top dollar. Trade in was 26.5k and I sold it for 31k

Thanks for the offer, but the coloro combo I'm looking for is Sapphire black with saddle.
I called dealers all over FL and all I could get was MSRP. Supply and demand thing.

Why did you change your mind about the car? Going for the 335i?
