@Gary, what size tires are those? My shop guy said that I should stick to the exact OEM tire sizes for BMW wheels. That leaves me with one tire option and 1100 for a set.

Alpins are better in the dry and a little quieter, blizzaks dominate in ice and snow though but snow is mostly limited to my driveway in the winter now since it gets cleaned up so fast.

225/40/18 all around. They easily fit on the OEM 189s. You don't want to go much wider than that for a winter setup.

I agree Blizzaks are def louder. Put mine on Monday and it sounded like I was driving my old XJ with some BFs on it. Four winters though with RFT Blizzaks and only have gotten stuck one time in my old e92 in a neighborhood due to slush under the 1' of snow. Both the e92 and my e9o were/are non-xi.

Rocking a 225/50R-17 square setup. That's as wide as I would go as well.

Winter "Beater"

A sort of rare 1988 BMW 325IX. California car, no rust, almost a shame to drive it in snow, but I can't wait!!

Soon to get Continental ExtremeWinters on winter wheels and the ski rack installed.

If you want to sell it I'll be interested only if it's a 5 speed. Can't seem to find any at all in 5 speed. Awd works fine did you do that one test to see if all working fine

Stock 162 wheels wrapped in Pirelli Sottozeros, 225/45-18s on all four corners. This set up last year was outstanding for me (except for a bubble due to a big pothole).

Its the 872xt 44".
I went with the thule recomended 38" one but that one was too small. This one fills up the entire roof as oppose to the 38".

Holy balls these cars suck without winter tires. There is a dusting of snow on the ground (1/2 inch maybe) and I only have winters on the front as of now because two people couldn't get the back tires off. The car gets no traction even pussy footing it at 20 mph and fishtails everywhere.

Had no issues today but had barely even snowed. Man they were idiots out there today and tons of accidents. Guys get your winters on the temperature dropped and the compound on your all seasons and summers are no good for this weather.

Also posted elsewhere but since this is the winter setup thread...

ARC-8's, 17x9 et30 with Michelin xice3 235/45. no spacers. LCI.

These tires are absolutely impressive so far. I was expecting horrible squirminess and weak lateral roadholding in the dry but they feel really solid. I think the mild stretch helps but the tread pattern really is special on these. Can't wait for real snow to test them out!
