My oil fliter housing is NOT leaking just yet. Looks clean and no oil around it.

Cheers!
It most likely is. You have to take the engine cover off. Mine were the front 2 or 3 valve cover bolts I just used a little pick to turn them. I actually think the threads go all the way through so you can just screw them in all the way and they will come out of the bottom. You'll need a torx socket to tighten the bolts, but I just used a regular socket that fit on the bolt. I don't think you should tighten them very much anyways. The bolts are sold in a kit p/n 15-39647-01. I bought a set of them and still have some left. If anyone needs a few just pay for shipping.

I need to get this oil filter housing done soon. I guess it's a good time to flush the coolant. From the sound of it we need to get these leaky BMW's fixed if we are all using so much oil. I put a quart of Castrol the other day because I didn't have time to get the oil changed when it came up. I got the one that was BMW approved, although I doubt it really matters, the royal purple was kind of tempting.

This works for every tipe of thread tightening hope everyone uses this when working on their cars.
It leaks from the from the gasket though its pretty common I think. That's a very good tip though

So This morning before heading off for the day I pull in to my local Bmw dealership (Valley Bmw in California) and ask them if they can top off my oil. They wanted to charge me 14$. Rep said "only vehicles still under the service warranty get the courtesy services for free." So I just drove a mile around the block to autozone and grabbed a quart of the Mobil 1. Put in 2/3's of the quart, drove for 10mins, and then seen I still could take more so threw the rest in. So far shes still chugging away

Good to hear, thx for heads up on top off service at the dealership.

I guess I should feel lucky, bought my N54 with 23k miles on it and I'm at 27k and oil level still shows full.

I've done quite a few WOT pulls during that 4k also.

My 335i the other day out of nowhere brought up the +1 LITRE sign ... Found that when I let the car warm up on a 15% gradient it some how caused the oil to misread on the sensor, so turned her off and parked level & tried again & read 100% full.

So thats a bit weird!
