On the topic of DPs... Can someone explain the "smell" I've read about regarding them? I'm interested in this upgrade eventually but not if it leads to a constant undesirable smell you have to live with..

There's a tiny bit off a smell on a cold start but it completely goes away when the engine is warm.

The smell I notice with my car (fully catless) is just a little more pronounced exhaust gas smell and it is usually only on startup, idling , and sometimes in stop and go traffic.. It really isn't as bad as everyone makes it seem you get used to it after awhile

with catless downpipes and stock exhaust, you wont really smell much. with catless downpipes and aftermarket completely catless exhaust, it will smell like burning crap aka normal catless smell. lol

This thread quickly turned into a commercial one LOL

You can't go wrong with either VRSF or BMS. We offer a lot more options too but VRSF and BMS are the cheapest ones (with proven resutls).

I got my VRSFs within the past few months and installed them myself as a local DIY garage. I couldn't say enough great things about them! The welds are clean, the polish is mirror, the insides are smooth, and fitment is perfectly snug! It was my first time pulling the DPs on my car (2007 e90) and it took me about 5 hours start to finish. That includes letting the car cool for a bit and a few drink breaks! They are less expensive than the BMS pipes (no $40 shipping) and are equal quality!

Who makes the cheapest downpipes? Where is the cheapest place I can buy them from (with the cheapest shipping) ? Then, where is the cheapest installation shop for them?

Luckily there is akrapovic, supersprint, etc... downpipes that are very well engineered. And by the way, all 2,5" !

yup! my buddy got around to installing them, and said they fit very well with no rattling or fitment issues whatsoever. so V2 vrsf downpipes have corrected the possible fitment issues the first version had

How do you mean unproven? What do they have to prove and to whom? They have been making and selling these since '09

Downpipes are a parity product at this point. You can spend $360 to $900 and will get the same results. One may be a little prettier than the other but that's about it. The turbos have a 3" opening and the exhaust connection is 2.5". No one makes 2" DPs. Like Jeff@TopGearSolutions said, the restriction is at the connection (not that it is except for 600+ hp cars). Whether it's 3" all the way to the connection or tapers sooner the differences in power/torque are negligible.
