Haha! I didn't think I was too picky!

Need to get the TT sold first before I get excited.

A late 06/early 07 one certainly sounds like the best choice, unless I go for an 08 one with warranty.
Yes,only the saloon came with lower output.
Z4/630i/130i/E92 got the bigger power one.

Excellent, cheers. Any idea about the E60 per chance?

I wouldn't get too hung up on 7bhp, find the right car with the right spec and anything else is a bonus. Mine is a 258 version in manual and even with 135k miles is sweet as ever and goes very well indeed

The 265hp is more efficient too though from what I can see.

Mine does 35mpg on the motorway, 24mpg round the doors...real figures incidentally, not taken from the obc. Not sure what the ed models do but I'd be surprised if they were significantly better. My wife had a 320d 177 ed model and it was lucky to get 50mpg on the motorway, to be fair if mpg was my goal I'd probably drive something else, luckily I don't give a fuck and prefer to have a lovely sounding car with ample power and a straight six engine, enjoying it as soon there won't be such a thing

Not entirely sure ,early e60 had the old M54 engine at 231hp then I'm sure you got the N52B30A at around 2006 then the N53 in ED versions after 2007 odd.
The N53 does indeed give better fuel Efficiency but at the expense of additional problems you may encounter.Mainly the DeNox Cat if you're only doing urban miles they tend to choke up like a diesel DPF so bear this in mind when choosing!

The one I'm buying is similar-ish - an N52 M Sport - but an estate and auto - I have this crazy idea that the N52 is one of the last classic BM straight sixes and will be worth a fortune in years to come, yours in particular as it's a rare manual - there really aren't many about.
But hey, I'm usually proved completely wrong on things like this

I hope you're right! My previous car had the 3.0 M54 231ps engine which I thought was excellent, but the N52 makes a better noise IMO (although could be due to different vehicle - Z4). Only thing that would make mine better for me would be if it was an estate, still manual though - hard to believe how much stuff a young baby needs carried around...

Rather than starting another thread, can anyone advise me if there were any revisions to the iDrive/pro nav over the years of the E9x?

Did the screen resolution remain the same throughout?

Pro Nav changed when the LCI was launched for the E90 and E91 which was mid 2008 build onwards. Older Pro Nav is DVD based, the later is hard drive based and has a better screen.

The E92 and E93 received the later Nav in 2009.....

I have a N53 Manual touring 2010. And just got my wife a N52 130i last year.

The Touring had coils & injectors done on warranty after I got it but I was looking hard for things wrong. I believe they were an uprated version.

N53 cracking on economy on a run. Lower emissions & tax. Very smooth & revs very nice. Sounds like a diesel at idle.

N52 in 1 is very urgent with good throttle response & cracking growl on start up. Probably more down to lighter weight & sportier exhaust tuning.

I have extended my Warranty on the touring.

Cannot fault either power plant.

"Like a diesel" is very harsh but for sure the N53 has a direct-injection sound at idle, a bit clattery from outside the front of the car, exhaust still sounds good. It sounds fine at startup unlike the Audi 2.0T petrol I had, which really did sound like a diesel on startup.

The 130i sounds fantastic from inside the car, it seems to have more induction roar than most cars with this engine.

I like the engine note on my N53 and its distinctly a 6-pot but it is not a patch sound wise on the 156GTA I used to run - then again the GTA averaged about 26mpg and I am averaging 36 in the 330i this winter so I can't complain. It was a very expensive noise!
