Yes it's expensive to have two full sets but if you consider the time and money wasted on broken rims and blown tires - I think you come out ahead over a couple of years. I think I'm now in the market for a 17" (all season) setup something somewhat cheap - any sellers? |

I live in South Jersey and head into Philly all the time and hit crater size potholes regularly and I have never bent, cracked, or damaged a rim.. My towns roads feel like I live in a third world country. I pay $6500.00 a year in property tax and would prefer driving on dirt roads. Meanwhile I go to Delaware and the roads are smooth as glass and the pay 1/4 of NJ property tax. ??? I have 2 sets of wheels and tires. For my winters I use cheap china made 18" M6 reps with Conti DWS 235 40 18 and 265 35 18 and for the summer I use my BBS RGR 18" with Michellin Supersports.

Seriously considering of selling my car and getting a suv because of these roads. Its literally impossible to enjoy driving around the tri state area. I already had to come out my pocket for the tune of $3000 two yrs ago while driving on the meadow brook pkwy and not looking fwd to doing it again.

Wow , ABC news did a special tonite on the horrible pothole problems in NY, and NJ. They showed how roads like the cross bronx have left dozens of cars at a time stranded on the side of the road with flat tires and damaged rims.

Yeah I lost my share of tires, no rim, which is kind of surprising considering the size of some of the holes. This morning I happen on to a nice size hole, I knew it was there so I was already slowing as I was coming to it, Well it grew so deep someone put a cone in the hole so people would not hit it. The hole was almost a foot deep and half the cone was in the hole.

For guys in philly/south jersey, there is a huge line of potholes on the righthand lane of i95S right before the exit to the commodore barry bridge.
Luckily I came out unscathed but hit them hard enough last week to have to pull over and check. |

Honestly, I wish I could get a can of RED reflective paint and paint the road to warn drivers of where the potholes are. I even call the GSP, city, and state to report potholes that I see but they rarely get fixed. Tehy even have websites which I submit the reports too... still it's rare that they get fixed. I guess we all just need to buy a raptor to drive around on these war torn roads?

What kind of tires are you using? I had the OEM RFT's on the car for 4 months and i managed to wreck two of my wheels pretty good. The rigid sidewall doesn't help.
Granted, any tire/wheel will get fucked up if you are driving through sinkholes. I am in the Tri-State, so we have some completely awful roads here as well. Feel your pain there.
