Yeah I was thinking that. Only problem is that I have a pre March production so I don't have the USB even as an option. As for a pic. Really all he did was yank out the carpeted piece from the trunk area and there it was in plain sight. Don't know if it was loose because maybe he was already working in there but it seemed pretty easy.

Left side of the unit if you are facing toward the front of the car or the back of the car? I have two boxes there. One is bigger, shinier and has labels on the top. Which box is it? Thanks! Last edited by JTBurn; 11-06-2007 at 10:46 AM.. |

Bad news, car back from dealer they cannot retrofit the USB interface to a Professional radio, as explained here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83201 I need business radio.
Back to square one. I asked the dealer to detail what are the USB retrofit compability to update you guys but they cannot tell. They says its a case by case study, need to call them with serial number of car so they can check compatibility.

The post March build USB would be useful if:
1) the 6FL actually presented itself as a USB interface to the CCC 2) the 6FL coding could accept USB drives only (not just the 6FL interface) 3) the coding was already available or the dealer could do this cheaply 1 is possible, but 2 and 3 are unlikely. |

Parts List & Time Line 6FL
I did get a parts list from the parts departemnt
They did say that they that one of the parts is just not availabile. The option is completely able to be retrofitted except for the fact that one part is not availaible. This upset me so I contacted the head of sales at my local dealer. He came to my restaurant tonight and told me that it is in the works. BMW of NA told him that it would definetly happen in the near future. His advice is that he prefers that I wait and not purchase the current option. He was told the 6 month point is the most realistic outlook for the option to become available. He also noted that it would not be $400.00. It would be more, more like $700 to $800. :-( |

It's quite possible that this will apply only to March 2007 production and later. There was a significant change in the electronics at that time.

Has anyone tried to plug an ipod or usb drive into that connection in the trunk? I ordered my car w/o the 6FL option, and I'm kinda kicking myself now, and was thinking of trying to plug an ipod in back there......so any luck?

Why don't you try it and let us know? I would, but I can't figure out where to plug it in. I see not adapter or connection in the trunk. Any pictures would be great. |

I was debating having the dealer put the MOST ipod adapter in, but didn't want to do it if this was a possibility. I'm guessing it isn't, but I wanted to see if anyone tried.

I hear you. I would prefer not to have the MOST. Maybe I'll go digging around in my trunk and see if I can find something to try. |

Unit in a trunk ... what unit?
I have March production 335. I saw this thread and decided to go and check. I knew where the CC has to be and I had no issues removing any connections, unplugging the unit and taking it out if need be to find that USB port. After all I did it in my previous 2006 BMW for one of my projects . Well … I was in for a surprise (please see the pictures).
