If I could afford it I'd get a brand new 911 Carrera 4.

Of course, between Mortgage, Wife's Car, Kid, elderly parents, all I can afford right now is the 335xi which is a bargain in its price range.

Well...you could go with the Porsche and just put regular in it, that'll save you a bit...just don't push the gas pedal past about half-way and you should be fine.

I hear you on the Hybrid. Love the folks that will pay $3k-6k extra for all the "green" technology so they can save $40/month on gas.

I'd love a Carrara 4s or a 911 turbo. But that new M3 ...I'd take that over a Cayman/Boxter anyday.

So you think an e92 335 is better then an M5 or M6.

real simple fellas, BOTH!

many Porsche owners drive both, a bimmer when you need a little more room, and a porsche to feel the little tiny hairs on the back of your neck stand up around a corner

in my case, i thought i might dump the bimmer when i got the cayenne, but more is better :-)))

Uhm

It's between the:

Porsche Turbo and the M6.

I'm leaning towards the Porsche, but love the size of the M6.

Hmmm...

In the two door world I would take a Cayman S over any 3 series including the M3, any Z coupe including Z4M, and any 6 series including the M6. I actually prefer the 335 over any 6 series.

Suv I'd rather have the Cayanne over any SUV that BMW offers.

As the Panamera isn't out yet Porsche doesn't have a 4 door competitor to any 4 door offering from BMW. I like the M5 a lot though.

Mmm, i'd forgotten about those two. M6> M5 > E92 335i and everything else is the same. I guess I'd tie the M6 and the M5 with a cayman s, but they're still leaps and bounds behind a carrera S in my book.

All stigma (that comes with owning the car) aside, it totally depends. I almost got a Porsche, but NOBODY around here (Montreal) drives their Porsche in the winter time (Cayenne not included in the argument).
BMW has the only coupe (all wheel-drive) that can be reasonably winter driven (of course, I'm talking out of BMW, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz... My preference in cars).
Sadly, despite the Porsche dealer, who assured me that the 4S was a "tank" in the winter time, I wasn't able to feed myself the BS and believe it too. I opted for a 335xi.

If, I lived (as most of you seem to) in the States, I believe I'd opt for a Porsche. HOWEVER, let's remember that there's a stigma associated with all of these cars - something worth taking into consideration.

So many variables! I think you already know the answer deep down inside and just need that extra nudge.

Nice 330i, but I still can't bring myself to like the bland (imo) styling of the boxster.

911S over anything BMW offers. Cayman S or M3 would be a toss up, but would most likely go with the croc.

If I had the money I would drop a 997TT engine in the Cayman and call it a day.

For the real world, I actually prefer the 335i over the 911.

The 335i has all the daily driving thrills that I can handle (I found my limits far before I found the car's limits). I can drive 4 people around in it easily. It is not a total pig on gas and I am less paranoid about leaving it in a parking lot than I would be with a car costing twice as much.

For me, the 335i is the better car.
