Que??!?! why. Is it the tape itself hurting the bumper/paint. Or just the removal of the plate + tape that ruins the bumper?

Not only that but if you ever get into a accident, that sharp metal plate will become a projectile, that you HOPE wont hit you in any way.

There was never a rule saying they can't pull you over unless you have other violations. But before, if you got a speeding ticket or any moving violation, they would just add tint or no front plate onto the ticket. I never heard of anyone getting pulled over just for tint or no front plate.

There is no 'right' position. As long as it's on the front plate somehow, you're in the clear. IE..this is how the stock plate comes from the dealership for an Evo..

Yeah, this is so stupid beyond believe. I see a lot of Scions and Hondas putting the plate inside their car and angle it up so you can somewhat see it from the outside..however that is still illegal. I guess that's the cool thing to do. And like you say...a sharp and light object that isn't secured inside the car can potentially be very dangerous in a car crash. If I were a cop, I'd pull you over for having the plate inside the car.

Legally they CAN pull you over for anything. Whether its just tint, or just a no front plate ticket.

But generally speaking, i never knew anyone that got pulled over just for tint or just for front plate. Most of the time it would just be like a add on to a ticket. So lets say you got pulled over speeding, and they noticed your tint, they'll just add a tint ticket on top of the speeding ticket.

+1. I heard it and read a news report on it a few months back. I just never saw it enforced so i thought nothing of it.

PS guys, they don't need any other reason to stop you. All they need is a probable cause to do so, in this case it's obviously they see you are not wearing a front plate and your windows are unusually dark.

They can pretty much examine your whole car if they have a probable cause due to the automobile exception. Example: You are driving and an officer hears your exhaust is insanely loud. He pulls you over, and sees some sooth on your rear bumper. That gives him the probable cause that the car is not legal, he asks you to pop the hood. You can either pop the hood for him or refused and he will have the car towed to be inspected by a trained referee, and you will be responsible for all the cost of the towing and such.

They've been talking about 'cracking' down for years now..yet you see M's, AMG's and exotic cars without the front plates on. This is one of the more pointless laws in California.
