Gonna see what else is out there once the policy expires as I'm now 25.

OP you should do the AAMI safe drivers course if you haven't done it already to get the discount. It's a bit of fun and a nice way to see just how much better our cars are at handling!
Actually that isn't a bad idea at all really I haven't thought about that. I have done a defensive drivers course through the RAC nearly 2 years ago and I reckon it was a waste of half a day, reviewing simple drivers knowledge and road rules by videos, correcting over and under-steering with their company stock Hyundai cars lifted up on hydraulics and training wheels and general maintenance with cars (changing a wheel, oil/coolant top ups etc..)

RAC
30 yo
Perth Bentley area,
parking in carport,
roughly 1200 per year,
500 excess,
insured at 50k,
no mods, one someone else fault accident last year.

Was with AAMI last year but with anouther car, change to my E92 325i late last year and found that RAC is even cheaper than AAMI, so, why not.

I'm with RAC, paying about $750/year for my 335i insured (at the moment) for $42,000.

27 yo, rating 1, added extra ~$2000 excess.

the age is what gets you,
last year when i was 23 i paid $2300 with excess of $600 (i was fucking stupid) that was with aami, and aami was the cheapest no matter what excess
now that im 24 aami sent me a renewal for $2400....then i checked NRMA to see if they are cheaper now and they were! $1500 agreed 30k, no mods, i asked aami why there is a massive price difference and they said it MIGHT (lady on the phone was lost) be because you had an accident (which wasn't my fault, was rear ended, i was at the front and 2 other cars behind me at a red traffic light) so i told aami to get......

Progressive $700 pa - half the price of Allianz (who I've been with for years until this year)

Heard some bad things about Progressive - if you have a smash have a big one so they write your car off

Never had any problems but I think I will find a more reputable insurer next year

Jesus I hope within a couple years (or sooner) my premium drops downs that much!
I must admit I did crash my previous car over a year ago (single vehicle accident) and the car was deemed a repairable write-off which would be a key factor as to why mine is quite high, would be nice if Aami do drop there's low enough I would stay with them to keep the yearly membership bonus.

If I can recall I think I found Allianz the second cheapest quote given at the time (around 3100)

When you declare mods, does this increase your premium?

Something like exposed DCI pods on a 335i - given it is illegal to have them exposed, can that void your insurance cover??

NRMA... on my GFs new car we took up Allianz but will probably swap back to NRMA, a few key points between NRMA & Allianz I have learnt:

- If purchased new, NRMA will replace a written off vehicle within the first 12 months, Allianz is 36months
- Allianz does not charge more to pay by the month
- However most importantly, NRMA covers anyone who drives your car... this alone is why I will be swapping back to NRMA.

Question for you guys with JB4s and BMS PowerBoxes - do you flag that you've got engine mods when getting an insurance quote? Places like Allianz don't cover you if you've got engine mods but I was curious if people even declare them...

Garage List
2007 BMW 335i  [10.00]
When I was shopping around for insurance, the girl from iSelect said to go with this group that installs an "insurance box". When I asked her to explain it... she says "oh it's just this box they install in your car, and it will determine your premium based on your driving... umm like if you brake hard all the time it decides you are a risky driver."

I tried to explain to her that I was purchasing a twin turbo, and I don't think she understood what I meant. Insurance box, no thank you.

I hope these "insurance boxes" aren't the way of the future. I stuck with RACV at $1500/pa (no insurance box bullshit), others quoted me $2000-$2500+.

Just doing some insurance shopping for my 335i. I'm 35 y.o, I live in a low risk area and have the following quotes so far:

NRMA: $1114 p.a - $101.93 p.m $2000 excess $41000 valuation (no mods listed)

Shannons: $1063 p.a - $88.59 p.m $550 excess $41000 valuation ($2K engine mods - $5K suspension mods) driven once or twice a month.

By memory my current insurer AAMI is $79 p.m for $41000 no mods listed and a $1500 excess. I think I will cough up the extra for shannons!

Budget direct: $617 p.a - $62.31 p.m for market value (around $41k) no mods listed <5000 kms per year and a $850 excess!
