You have to cover as much ground as you can while he regains traction and his turbo spools. Assuming a big turbo once he hits peak boost he is going to reel you in QUICK.

Too many variables. I have seen hatches with just k swaps no turbos keep up with a heavily modded 335i. Bottom line a sohc Honda on boost makes around 200 whp. A dohc makes closer to 3. But there cars are very light. And those are not accounting a built motor. My friends hatch makes 500whp on 30lbs fully built

If he tells you that and wants to run he's likely going to blow your doors off. a) the hatchbacks weigh nothing b) I have yet to see one WITHOUT an engine swap at this point in time (its almost automatic so don't expect him to have a 1.6L SOHC) c) throw a turbo on top of it. Technically it could be a high 14 second civic but combine the fact he won't tell you what he's done with the fact he wants to run and not just talk he's probably well prepared. There is a chance it was a 16 second civic and he's so drunk off not being slow he thinks his 13.5 civic conquers all (seen this too) but its atypical for people outside the BMW world to think they can easily handle a FBO 335i. The folklore of a FBO 335i might even surpass the actual results.

Best chance is to race from the highest speed roll he will accept. 50-60mph would be a good goal. not sure why you list what map you are running as a mod..lol. Map 5 is usually best for running e85 as it automatically adjusts. Since that's not available I suggest at least getting a meth kit, run a 80/20 mix with at least a single CM10 nozzle, and run map 7. I had my best/cleanest logs and dyno's when I was only FBO with that setup. I ran two CM10 nozzles though, car loved it.

Depends on how much money he dumped into the Civic. GReddy has turbo kits that will produce up to 265hp. However, I just viewed an 800 hp monster with a gigantic turbo that was supercharged. GL !

Whatever you do.. Record it on an HD camera of some sort for scientific reasons
Civic turbo can mean SOOO many things as stated before. I say run him no matter what if you're not playing for money. But anyone can slap an eBay turbo kit on a civic. Unless he has modifications to dance with that turbo, you'll take him.

Let him be immature. Show that you're the bigger man. What's the point in you racing him? You don't want to stoop down to his level of thinking. What if something happens to you, or your car, or to someone that was on the road? Can't let that get in you conscious. And like stated above, you drive a classy car, compared to his boy toy civic. So be classy, and don't let someone "talking smack" make you make a bad decision that you might regret. If you 'must' race him. Then go to a track. You don't want to lose your car because some *** wanted to race in his Civic. Trust me, 4 Honda civic Hatch's tried getting me to race once in my MR2. I didn't do it until miles later, so when i finally did, one of them spun out and crashed right behind me going over 130 on high speed turns. It was NUTS and made me not want to race again. Make the right decision! |

Sometimes enthusiasts just like what they like. I'm sure if any of us rambled on to an M3/M5/M6 owner about the tunability of an FI motor and that a 335 could be built to beat them, they'd say the same thing! Back on topic. Yeah, sometimes you just need to be careful with some of these Civics, some of them aren't just rice. Several years ago, my friend had an E36 M3 with a tuned semi-race motor in it and ran a Civic that kept up with no problem. Turned out the guy had a Jackson Racing S/C under the hood. My friend thought that he was going to waste him. Wrong.

Win or lose, don't care, at the end of the day you still have a BMW 335 and he has a old Honda Civic...

Do yourself a favor and get a metal CP. It's money well invested. Plus you won't have to replace a broken MAF sensor, which are a little expensive. |
