Also - Good idea on the oil cooler protection. Someone I know with a M235i took a rock, errr probably a pebble and busted a fin, he lost coolant within a couple hours.
Thanks, wasn't easy... Would've been easier with a 1'er or a Z but this was my last work car and it had to be a sedan.

The race team does this to their cars, pays back when the car they're drafting grenades. But damn does it look ugly! Especially behind the kidney grills. Didn't post that picture, it hurts the brain...

Ya, I'm excited when I covert the car to track what I can get the car down to...it'll be interesting.

Also, be prepared to wear ear plugs, that exhaust is going to be a handful.

Wait til VANOS kicks over...

My setup with 3" 100 cell cat, bottle resonator and Magnaflow muffler sneaks by Lime Rock'a 88dB limit. 97 is just ear piercing man, don't know how you daily that lol.

Oh yeah, definitely. Was the shop Monday and it's physically painful next to the car, I only had it idling while in the car. It's going to be uncomfortable all the way around as a daily, that's for sure. But it sounds freakin incredible when it revs way up...w00t!

Rear brake cooling

Now that alignment has started the brake duct hose has been installed. Makes use of the vent in the Aero rocker panel, albeit to an unknown degree. It'll be fun to check temps at the track with it blocked and not anyway. The cut-and-weld mods of the rocker panels and the tube fabrication are detailed further up this thread somewhere...

Forgot to include a picture of the scale before corner balancing. Cross weight's pretty close though, seems hardly worth the effort.

That was my experience as well. After getting the car cornered the year before, adding the half cage didn't make a huge difference.

Driver's master kill switch installed. External kill switch goes next to the wipers in one of the same enclosures used on the M235iR racecar. That has two switches, one for the electric fire system as well but we'll just use a hole plug.

The switches are from Hoerr and are aviation-type sealed toggles. The contactor is an aviation rated master battery disconnect relay from Aircraft Spruce.

The driver's switch is located about where it'll be when the cage is finished.

Just received a new tow hook in the mail. This is a slim-shaft tow hook, and differs from the hook included in the tool kit. The seller described it as used by the dealerships to transport cars.

If you move forward with the Euro bumpers, this tow hook will work with the M3 carbon kevlar bumper.

I don't know where to source another, but your buddies at the dealership ought to be able to help.

I've been using these:

https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-3...-black/?pdk=AQ

Had to carve up the bumper a bit for them to fit. Had to do that with the original bumpers as well. In both cases the metal part will break all the tabs for the cover when screwing it in. Had them throw the covers away this time since they'd be useless.

Solid tow hooks generally aren't allowed as contact can often hook a couple of cars together for a moment.

I certainly wouldn't drive on street or track with a tow hook attached, nor would it be recommended.

Shouldn't run without tow hooks on the track, required in all the DEs I've attended. They do use the one that comes with the car but then it's not w2w racing so no contact. I usually forget and drive home with them still attached, no big deal.

Interesting - regional differences. Tow hooks aren't mandatory here. Well, the car needs to be equipped with a method for towing, it's just that the hook need not be attached to meet the spirit of the rule.

Pretty sure it's so they can clear dead cars as quickly as possible and stay on schedule. Doesn't always work though, then they gotta get the flatbed and winch what's left off the grass. Sucks to fail tech in the middle of a turn I guess.

Forgot that adding the master battery relay disconnect makes it impossible to charge the battery from the terminal under the hood. Duh. So having the removable pigtail from my Deltron Battery Tender hardwired to the battery and anchored out of the way in the trunk to make it easier. Not exactly a difficult thing to do but hey it's in the shop and they said they do this to all their cars so, ya know, why not.
