They did make it as a 335i. BMWNA in all their infinite wisdom did not import anything but the 325i/328i version.

Ahhhh serious? I have never bothered to look to see what was offered outside the U.S. Was there an E91 M3 as well? I suppose I should just do my research.

I've definitely seen the conversions and builds. Impressive stuff to say the least.

Nope, they never produced an E91 M3, but there were many models available in most all markets except here in the US. See this link from realoem where you can scroll the model list for E91s.

Yeah the "E91 335xi" and "E91 330xd" realoem.com listings chafe in particular. But USDOT certification is prohibitively expensive and NHSTA continues to insist on crashing a bunch of real cars rather than using finite-element models and it all needs to be done on a per chassis/powertrain combination I believe. Since the E91 is a different chassis code I think it wasn't as simple or cheap as "put this existing certified engine in this existing certified chassis".

That being said, I'd love to see someone do a full writeup on a powertrain swap that includes both real costs and how to overcome the few non R&R hurdles (engine control, exhaust). It would be a lot of work but super handy

someone got a great car, weird that carfax shows 1st owner not buying until 2013

was a "manufacturers vehicle" prior to that and it sold "new" in 2013 with 1,250 miles at auction before it went to the "1st" owner ...

that said, my 2011 E91 was a manufacturers car and several other wagons I had researched were as well
