went through the thread and have a question - does reprogramming mean they will change all data on the chip? I am thinking of getting my car chiptuned and wonder whether if I do that first and then get the ipod interface installed, this will erase the performance chip information.
hope my query is clear and looking forward to answers adam |

I use the jack in the console, music quality is ok, but my biggest complaint is that there is no data on the stereo for song tracks. Also, you can only use the steering wheel controls for volume, not for changing tracks. Anyone have any ideas if this works and I have something disabled, or is that it? Thanks, |

Not every PROGMAN (formerly CIP) upgrade touches the ECU. HOwever, it could. I am not aware that the latest version, 23.xx, has any ECU coding so you may be safe for now. Most reputable chip tuners will recode for free or nominal charge if BMW resets your ECU code.

Just had the iPod interface installed. $319 for the part, $417 for labor (they quoted 1 1/2 to 2 hours, but charged for 3 hours - but will be correcting the charge). It took three full days. Progman version 23.02.01 installed.
Strange behavior sometimes where the random setting will keep selecting songs one right after the other, but never start any. Resetting the iPod solved it, but it has come back one time. Is anyone aware of a way to pause a song? I did read through most of these pages, but haven't found the answer. The instruction manual does not mention a pause function. It seems odd that you wouldn't be able to stop or pause a song. Also, if you select another menu like Navigation and then try to go back to the Entertainment menu, it doesn't bring you back to the song playing. I haven't found a way to get back to the song playing display without scrolling through what could be hundreds of songs. Is there a trick I'm missing?

Thanks for the quick reply JSpira!
I still think the interface is a great addition. Hopefully some of the oddities will be corrected in the future. Also, my car was a March 05 build. I noticed some were wondering if the interface worked on the pre 09/05 builds.

However, I would not hold out much hope for too much in terms of fixes. Quote:

Could anyone confirm for me if this part number is for the latest Interface which displays track listings, etc on an iDrive equipped car in Europe?
65 41 0 412 881 - this is a part number from an installation PDF I found on the forum. I quoted part number 65 11 0 403 650 to my dealer, but that didn't register on his system - this is the part number from the US press release. I ordered the first part number, now I'm worried its for the old, defunct interface? Help please !

No, you cannot view videos but the music will play if you select a video. It also doesn't display album art which is a bummer. Overall, though, its a clean and effective interface.
In my hands, if I drop out of the entertainment menu (to go to communications or nav) and then reselect entertainment, the display shows the top menu structure but if I leave it for a minute or so, it then displays the current track and song listing (i.e. reverts to the playing screen automatically). |

You gave them the correct part number for 3 Series E90/91/92 with navigation 03/05 and later or with navigation 09/05 and later. It is in BMW After sales Business Development and Marketing BMW Dealer Bulletin. Subject BMW iPod Interface for MOST Bus Vehicles. Dated 08/06. BUlleting no. 65 06 06.

iPod (OEM MOST ipod interface) with Audiobooks
Has anyone tried using this interface with audiobooks? Does it come back to where you left off (like the ipod does) or does it start back at the beginning of the audiobook when you switch entertainment source, turn the car off, etc?
Thanks. |

This behavior does not apply to phone usage or pausing (pressing power button or steering wheel "mute"), as it pauses the ipod in those cases. Audiobooks, if in different chapters, would probably re-start the chapter, but I'm guessing that the single files will be re-started... This is just a guess, though, perhaps the interface has some unique coding for the audiobooks... I'd guess not, though... -N

"If you switch off the car radio, select another audio source, or turn the car off whilst the iPod is playing, playback will resume at the point at which the iPod was interrupted. If the iPod is disconnected and then reconnected, playback will start at the first track of the first directory. If you are listening to the iPod out of the car and plug it in, playback will start where you were. For podcasts and vodcasts, the audio will always start where you left off (imagine losing your place in an eight-hour audio book)." There - I think I covered just about every circumstance in that paragraph. Disclaimer: the above text is from my final draft and might be slightly different in the actual magazine
