Like oil and water. btw I jump started my Lexus with a BMW battery on Sat. (for real it worked great, easier to bring over to the car than trying to stretch cables). I stupidly left the key in ON.....thank *** my Mark Levinson was not damaged

I have a 2007 335i with original headlights..... let's just say, they were a little hazy.

Steps I took:

Taped off the headlights & fog lights w/ yellow 3m tape used for automotive body work.

Wet Sand:
1) used 400 grit
A) swirl motion
B) side to side motion

2) used 600 grit
A) swirl motion
B) side to side motion

3) used 2000 grit
A) swirl motion
B) side to side motion

Repeat process again for good measure.

Took 3 large garbage bags a part and taped them to the front of the car.

Followed the outline of the headlights and fog lights with a pair of scissors and created holes in the garbage bags where the lights are. I then taped the garbage bags to the tape that was already outlining the headlights and fog lights.

I used Rust-Oleum 2x Ultra Cover gloss clear w/ UV protection.

I sprayed the lenses about 12" away, waited 5 min, sprayed it again & waited 5 min and sprayed it a third time. I waited 1 hour and then repeated the process again.

I had a some orange peel effect on the passenger side. So, I used 3000 grit & wet sanded the lens.

I then pulled out my dual action porter & cable polisher and put 3m perfect it no. 1 on a chemical guys orange pad. Setting the polisher to 5 is polished the lens. I used 3m no. 2 on a chemical guys white pad and polished it.

Perfection....

My last step was to wax the lenses with some Black Fire/ Black Ice hybrid wax.

The lenses look like they are almost brand new.
Before and after pics?

Replaced coolant. I used the Pelican Parts DIY and some valuable tips from this site. Pretty easy, the hardest part was accessing the screw head on the hose clamp near the pump because the subframe was in the way. If it had just been turned a little bit, it would have been so easy.

I added a phone holder to the side of the center console.

It is just a regular belt phone holder. But I removed the belt clip and folded the flap that holds the phone in over backwards. Then used a putty knife to push it up under the plastic. It is a lot tighter there than I was expecting. no glue or anything needed to hold it in place. I put it right under where my hand falls while seated in the car.

I have the ash tray, so no real good place to put the phone while driving.

finally got around to changing my transmission fluid the other day
car runs through the gears 10x better then before. alot less torque converter lag and better throttle tip in revving to 2k. smoother and much more refined power delivery then before. anyone with 100,000KM or more on their automatic box - highly recommend you do this as my fluid was basically almost black when i drained it.

I guess that me being at 145,000 miles (233,000 KM) without ever changing the transmission fluid, I should get this done or avoid it like the plague?

That's a tough call. Maybe a drain and fill, but I wouldn't do a full flush.

What encompasses a drain and fill?

Drains about 6.5 quarts of old fluid and gets replaced. This way you're not shocking the trans with all new fluid since it is higher mileage.

Did they dropped pan and replaced filter? How much oil goes in there and what brand? Is any sealant/gasket necessary? Thanks

P.S. I've never done it before, car has only 77K km, but it's 10 years already, so I'm not sure to do it or not. I do get some kicks in shifting from time to time tho

replaced 75% of my vacuum lines. Decel wastegate rattle is nearly gone now. Does anyone know if I can replace the vacuum lines that go from the boost solenoids to the wastegates with normal silicon vacuum lines? The original ones seem to be encased in a fabric.

its certainly wouldnt hurt for you to do it, especially considering your car is 10 years old. if you have some harsh shifting here and there you definitely should do a flush very soon. strangely enough, they drained 4L from my car, but when they filled it 5L went into there. its very strange because transmission fluid doesnt burn, so i have no clue where that 1L went because there were no leaks. my shop used mannheim dextron VI fluid which i dont think is specified for my zf8hp, but rather for the old 5 speed boxes. either way, transmission works great now - shifts smoother and better throttle tip in (less torque converter lag)

my ZF unit did not have a gasket/seal around the transmission unit. the guy working on my trans just wiped down the metal sealing surface and put the new oil pan back on.

you do have pretty high mileage - doing a flush can be a bit of a gamble. but a drain and fill is useless because you'e going to be running your fresh new fluid through the nasty, 230,000KM-old filter. Honestly, if you transmission is just shifting hard and hesitating to upshift (my unit with only 111,000KM on the clock was doing the same) then i think you will be fine with a full flush. whatever you decide to do (drain or flush, i recommend you do a flush) *you should get it done ASAP.* ever since 100,000KM, you have simply been slowly cooking your clutches. if i noticed a huge difference with a flush at 100k, i can only imagine how happy your box will be if you do the same.

best of luck!

Okay sweet. I was worried that the heat might be too much for the exposed silicone lines. I will replace those lines closer to the turbo now.

I too, went with the red colored lines. I like the small accents.

Took the $300 wheels and Blizzak WS70 tires to the local tire shop and had the TPMS modules switched out.

Got them on the car and ready for the snow now.

The $10 eBay clutch-stop. I should have done that a long time ago. Very nice improvement!
