Hey all I have been following this thread for awhile and decided to ask since Im going in circles. I have a 08 12-07 build 335i sport package with 6mt. I recently had my car serviced for a nail in the tire. The SA came out and says hey we also have to do an update on your car, this being my first bmw im a newbie. I get the car back all is good and I drive away and right away I notice a tamer so to speak car... I came upon this thread and I have been in a process with Bmw of SA for a month now. had the car taken back in and the SA tells me there is no such thing etc basically talks down to me. I come back a week later with a TSB or this fix bulletin and there like OOOO this fix yea we know about that... but tell me Im running factory software and that my car when serviced was never updated .... I went back with a newer bulletin upon finding and then was told ok we can program to a newer version but that wont fix your lag problem... I cant recieve and info on my current software in the car and am getting talked down to like a 4 year old... whats yalls take on this and maybe how would yall go about this situtation.... the car runs nice and i run top tier since day one its a cpo and The car is pulling hard just laggin definitely till 3000rpm when i notice a solid punch of boost. the overall drive is just much more subtle and not like the original car i drove off the lot before the first damn service.... I need some resolution PLZ HELP.... all i have been told from the dealer and SA is i am E89X 07-12-515? and idk what exactly this is.
thanks all Last edited by shane060; 11-09-2009 at 09:12 PM.. |

Sounds like your dealer is making shit up as they go along based on how they keep changing their story. Since it is CPO they ahould have the entire service history in the system. Just for your own records I wuld get a copy of all work done on the car since it was new. They should not give you any grief about that since you are entitled to know what has been done to your car before and since you have had it. The work orders will state if the software was updated and when and also if any major parts have been worked on or switchedout.. That will help give you a idea of where you are at in terms of version you are running. I amnot as wise as Meyer on the codes and numbers they use(Meyer has a secret decoder ring he uses) but a service history is always good to have on hand in case something goes wrong. You may be able to rtrace it back to something else that was diagnosedat an earlier time.
Sorry there is not more solid things to use with dealer.

If they do not lie to you, that corresponds to Progman version 28.0, which was current when your car was built and which is not affected by lag. That would be consistent with the story that it is still the delivery version and the car has not been updated ever since. In that case, it's not the software version causing the problem.

To save me from reading this entire thread I was hoping to get an answer from one of the many knowledgeable people on this forum. I'm picking up my new car in two weeks and was wondering if I should be aware of what software version I should have? They told me they were going to put the latest version on. The car is an e90 2009 335i. It's a Nov '08 build (week 46). I'm guessing the cars been sitting on the lot since February or so. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

Just got my '06 build date 335 back after warranty work for the long cranking issue.
The car now is on its third High Pressue Fuel Pump. Car starts without hesitation when cold and is running much much better in the first two minutes after starting. According to the paperwork, the 'software version' of the car was really, really old. Like 23 something old. They flashed to 'the latest' version and reinitialized the steering sensor, which after the X3 for the weekend, felt razor sharp. I will try to get the actual software version, but this was flashed Friday Nov 6th. Spark plugs also replaced at 42k Car is pulling like a train from low rpms in fourth gear. I hope it lasts!

If they put on the current version now, you should be fine.

Ok in response to my longer comment above I thank those who steered me in a general direction. So I spoke to my SA and he tells me Version 28 is Progman which BMW does not support anymore. Its equal is E89x 07-12-515 which was installed when your car was built??? does this make any sense. once again when I ask him what software is in my car currently he tells me E89x 07 12 515 but says that program 28.0 is old and I have a newer software that is equal to E89x 07 12 515... BUT HE WONT TELL ME what it is. He has offered to reflash my car to something but he wont tell me what?? this is my problem IM dealing with. Any comments? He tells me I reassure you have the equal and proper software I need BUT WHAT IS IT?? is it a Lagged out version of a newer one? or is it a newer fix with the LAG FIX????

Is this true, because I am in this boat as I type. A guy at the gym about 4 mos. ago said never let them touch your software, as he got lag, worse mpgs, etc.
Anyway, like a few have said, how do I recognize what version I'll be on? I remember that upon the last visit, the SA showed me off of a printout, that my version was the base load from late '06, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Does anyone have a document showing what the latest is supposed to fix? In the software world, such a doc always exists....thx. |

Hey John ya unfortunately there seems to be alot of us in the same boat. Im dealing with my SA due to software as well. I brought the car in few months ago to service a new tire. was told update was done but now all of a sudden I have lag and Im told by my SA no update was done... Im trying to get my current software out of the man but unfortunately they like to send you in circles. Id stay cool and collective with your SA and if your on original software DONT TOUCH IT. that was my problem, my car was touched without me knowing and now Im trying to figure out what exactly has been done...

I think the final verdict is if you have pre-29.2, stick with it because it was the best out there. If you have to get updated due to some other failure, the newer software is not so bad at all. |

2. He CANNOT tell you what Progman (and it was Progman, not ISTA/P, if he does not lie about the target data status) version you actually have, since all v28, v28.0.1 and v28.0.2 had the same target data status for the E9x - they differed only for other car series. If he does not fool you, you still have the original version on the car which is supposed to have no lag. If you want to know for sure, find another dealer who gives you a diagnostic printout of the target data status or someone with a Bavtech "pro" tool. 3. There are no change logs for releases any more. BMW has found that releasing those gave customers reason to complain about the fixed problems without actually having them and requesting a free update. I am sure they exist internally but they are not circulated. Instead, problems are described in TSBs/SIBs together with the least version that fixes them.
