I opened mine in a notepad also and you're right is it chinese text. i'm baffled as to why its not pulling your 1b file. hopefully somebody on the forum will be able to shed some insight. but you have the right file.

Your F30 VIN indicates you do not have CIC but instead have Business. The script will not work for you. |

Need help
Hey guys, this is my first post. I just bought a 2011 BMW 328i xDrive and the Nav hasn't been updated since 2011. I've downloaded the maps but cannot seem to get the steps to work in generating the FSC Code. I've done the following:
1) Downloaded the FSC Code generator to 3 empty USB sticks formatted in FAT32 2) Extracted the files. 3) Plugged the USB Sticks into the BMW with the ignition on 4) Left the USB sticks in there for 30 secs or more 5) Plugged the USB sticks back into my Windows computer but I get no 1b Hex file to then generate a code. Please help? |

You need to download the 1b.zip file in the 1st post, unzip it and copy the copie_scr.sh file to the root of an empty USB stick. |

I just downloaded "FSC Code Generator" and didn't download and unpack the 1b.zip file in the first post. I will try that. |

Should work.
Make sure you UNPACK the file you download from here onto a FAT32 formatted USB key/drive. The script file is the only thing that needs to be on the root directory of the USB drive. Turn on the car & radio, insert the key and wait five or six minutes. Then shut off the car and move the key to your computer. Check to see if a new file appears on it. |

Thank you very much for this amazing solution!!!
I used it yesterday and it worked beautifully. Using a Mac I pulled the 1b file then generated a lifetime code. My vehicle had a CIC fitted to it replacing the CCC. I did not have the VIN of the donor vehicle so I was stuck trying to update the maps. Thank you so much! |

just did this and worked for me. i have Comfort Access so I had to press the Start button twice (Ignition On warning), waited for Navigation to boot up, inserted the USB in the glove box, waited for another 30 seconds, pulled the USB and voila, the 1b.hex and fsc.bat file were there.
my previous error was i only pressed the start button once and that did not generate the 1b.hex file for me. FSC code generation was straight forward after that, just follow the instructions. Also downloaded the 2020-1 map update and updated my maps. |

Thank you very much. EDIT: Tried in my F11 (manufacturing date 13/04/2012) with Business Navigation and MOVE maps (not sure if it corresponds to CIC or NBT), but the 1B file is not extracted.

For those whose car is not giving them the 1b file (or updating maps), check that no pins in the USB slot are bent.
I gave up trying to get the 1b file (plugged USB in to glovebox...nothing happened), so I bought a FSC code of ebay. Put my maps on USB (tried 6 different ones all FAT32).....plugged in USB with maps, expecting to see the update screen....Nothing. I noted that the USB didn't seem to seat properly and had a bit more wiggle than usual, so after trying all the other recommendations, I pulled out my torch, released the two catches either side of the glovebox to drop it down, and had a look at the actual USB slot...sure enough, one of the pins was bent up. With a couple of very fine flat screwdrivers, a sturdy paperclip and much bad language I was able to straighten it out, and the maps are now updating. |

I've been able to update my maps using a PC and USB stick method with a CIC system in a previous vehicle. Now I have a newer vehicle with the NBT and using a Mac. What is the best method for extracting from vehicle, generating FSC code using Mac? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...
