I haven't gotten any new toys.

Did get a ruptured brake line on my truck on Friday while trying my damnedest to stop. That gets the ol' adrenaline pumping, I tell ya.

BTW, 5000th post. Two Stars!

Sorry? You were feeling left out?? You've must have nearly all the toys you can get on your M3!!

Anyway, not to be left out with new stuff I'm getting a new steering wheel on Wednesday. The facelift M6 has a steering wheel made of a superior and softer grade of leather to mine...you know, like the new M3, nice soft Nappa leather. So i bought one...brand new from BMW at not inconsiderable cost.

Thought it would be kinder on the hands on the long drive!!

Now, try an beat that for a pointless 'toy' anyone??

Steve, you made me concerned about the weather for my first ring trip so I looked it up. Checked four sites, The Weather Channel, BBC Weather, AccuWeather.com, and Weather Forecast.com for Koblenz, Germany. I got three different forecasts for the weekend. Weather Channel says rain through the weekend. BBC Weather says heavy rain through the weekend. Weather Forecast.com says rain Friday afternoon, clear Friday night, and some clouds all day Saturday. AccuWeather.com says clear Friday through Monday.

You know, when the weather people say there's a 40% chance of rain it just means that 4 out of 10 of them think it will rain.

Maybe if the weather isn't nice and sunny it will keep the numpties off that particular road.

If it's any consolation, last weekend was forecast to be dire with lots of rain.

However, looking at the webcam on Saturday, it was bright sunshine so take the forecasts with a pinch of salt... especially if there is currently very little consistency between different websites.

The 'Ring has it's own weather, can be sunny one end, snow the other.

If it rains then at least tyre degradation will be less!

I've just realised that I will be at the Ring same time as this trip (doh), would be great to meet up on Saturday or Sunday, looks like I may even be on the same crossing via the tunnel Monday morning.

We have a C2S, 335d, 535d, R32, S4, 2 bikes, 350z, Catheram and some others coming over, about 10 cars in all.

I'm bringing my headrest mount and fullHD camera (1080p) and will be trying to film laps, I've managed to for the last 3 years. Basic technique is for me to travel as passenger, camera under seat, get through toll gates, pull over to right by the cones, quick attach camera, record Bridge to Gantry, take camera off and hide at end of lap.

If anyone is interested in getting a lap filmed ? pm me and I will try and help out Saturday or Sunday, I'm also considering filming a chase lap, obviously I would need someone to chase ..... my best BtG is about 9:20, so whoever I chase would need to be around that time. Although if the weather is anything but dry I doubt i'll do a chase lap.

Finally I can cut the footage to RAW m2ts files 1080p, 15 minutes of footage is about 2GB and burn to a DVDr, or in time convert and upload as 720p to vimeo. Examples below

http://www.vimeo.com/1357199

http://www.vimeo.com/1350389

Obviously there wouldn't be a cost, although I might be thirsty at the end of a lap ;-)

Its the 5 megapixel sony ericson, the model before the skinny one came out. I have 8 gigs memory, the longest ive recorded for is 48 minutes. I have spare velcro, if anyone wants to attach it to ther car
Carlos, i talked to that insurance company, and they dont cover damage to track, just your car.
