Well boyz, I was wrong. I got my first look at the new Open Flash... Let me tell you, her face is much easier to look at than my old tune. Covers more of the hood with a great back-end spread for easy access and diagnostics. Nice thing is the front & back end can be flash upgraded. How many of you have a tune that can't be upgraded or has just got fat like my old tune?
As much as I love my old piggy tune, she has put on a few pounds over the years and she just has to go. Thank god she already found a new home. |

Regardless, options are always better than no options. I think Open Source is a little misleading as most people think of Open Source as FREE. So setting the level of expectation a little high doesn't do anyone any good. But we can always dream about a new hood scoop. Personally, I'm impressed with what I've seen so far. I'm sure everyone will have feedback and request additional options as I already did...

The term open source, in the world of ECU tuning, usually refers to open source map editing. Meaning that the DME is read/written in unencrypted format and that an open source map editor is used to make changes. The open source map editor (tuner pro, rom raider, ecuflash, etc,.) is different from a closed source map editor (Cobb ATR for instance) in that the locations of the tables (in the ROM) are clearly defined. As well as the axis scaling. Open source map editors also give the user the flexibility to find/define more maps on their own. Therein lies is the advantage of having an open source community. You put dozens of people together on the task of finding/understanding new maps and you will see progress. Quickly. But I'm happy to say that right off the bat, the starting point for the open source map editor used with the Rombinhood device is better than anything else we've seen for the N54 market. Think ATR... on steroids. Of course, I'm a little biased. But you'll see in 2 days
The Subaru and the Evo markets have had open source options for years now. And the description above is accurate and applicable. The user still has to purchase hardware (albeit relatively inexpensive compare to conventional closed source flashing solutions). Shiv Last edited by OpenFlash; 07-02-2013 at 08:14 PM.. |

If I were a stock turbo PROcede user, I would purchase Rombinhood's device and run them in parallel first. Hopefully flah mapping will be created that can control boost 100% effectively, because that remains an obvious piggy advantage. Until we see some major breakthroughs in ECU discovery, you'll always be better off running a flash and piggy in tandem. |

So do we at least have a rough estimate as to what the cost may be yet? I know it was previously stated that it would be relatively inexpensive compared to others but is that BMW inexpensive or normal like Honda inexpensive lol

If it is going to be Honda inexpensive I am going to need to sell my BMW just for the parts...... Over here Honda parts are expensive as hell. Now, Datsun inexpensive is something I could get behind.

Its weird, I originally had images of etching my own circuit boards to take an IC that would be programmed via laptop. I can't say as I was especially looking forward to making my own board again..... I think the last thing I made was a Satellite TV card reader.

I'm interested to see what's new from Vishnu as it's been awhile and they have done a lot of R&D. Maybe we will see a Rev 4 soon. |

I just came across this thread today and have been glued. I guess I stumbled on it at the right time LOL. Too bad my GF is going to be pissed (she has a N55), looks like I get to save some money and tune my car the way I want to thanks to Rombinhood and Shiv. Only 1 day left!!!
