Thanks for the feedback. I burned the iso again but this time with 1X speed. It seems to be working so far. No error messages when i look up a POI. Let's hope it stays this way

thanks!

okay, so I am in afghanistan and just ordered a 328i with NAV. I am stationed in Bamberg, Germany and my dealer says NAV disc is very expensive. I tried searching and reading this thread but here our computer time limit is 15 min. so I don't have time to read 22 pages. I really just want to know if there are older versions of the Europe dvd for sale, say like a 2007 disc. Also wondering if there is a reliable site to just download it off the internet. I know reading this entire thread would be usefull but as I stated before, at my camp we only get 15 minute turns on the internet. Thanks.

^ Here is the torrent to the latest European Nav Disc. It's over 5GB so you need a double layer DVD to burn it. Don't know where you will be able to download it though...

What do you mean with 70% of update? You mean the burning failed at 70%?

That would indicate either a bad burner or bad media.

Also, I know from experience that not all BMW DVD drives are equal. I burned a Dual-Layer 2008-2 European Nav disc with speed cameras which worked in my 3 series. But when I tried the same disc in a E60 it could not read it, while the 2008-1 single-layer version did work.

ok, I have never seen this. Does the 7 series copy the disc to an integrated HDD or something?

In any case it clearly has a problem reading the disc, which could indicate your having a media or burner problem. Or your BMW DVD drive is just very picky.

get another burner. one that is xbox360 recommended make sure the drive is setting dvd-rom booktype as not all burners do this for you (maybe option is disabled by default).

i can imagine a dvd-player exposed to dirt and vibrations will lose its calibration and have to work harder thus shortening its lifespan. there are two lasers one for CD and one for DVD. I've got a pioneer here with a blown CD laser it won't have nothing to do with cd-roms but burns mp3 discs and dual layer nav discs at 8X on verbatim DVD+R DL just fine. too lazy to swap it out since cd's are kinda out of the picture for me these days

I just placed the 2008.1 NAV disc into the car I got the following message: New DVD disc, shut down system and turn it on after 5 minutes? Is this normal and do you turn off the system by taking out the key?

Thanks!

^ Yes, it's normal. And yes turn the car off. Just follow the prompts, it's updating your system.

3 series does not have a HDD.

The reason it tells you to turn off the car and wait for 5 minutes is because after 5 minutes of inactivity the computer will shut down and when you then start it up again it will read the new DVD fine.

In fact if your to impatient to wait for 5 minutes, you can just reset the computer by pressing the volume and both eject buttons simultaneously. This is what I always do.

thanks for the reset my unit is so whacky that depending the day it picks between : FM, CD, DVD(mp3)

if it actually remembers i was on DVD(mp3) it lists the wrong directory for a song or two then catches up.

talk about ram issues.

Maybe it needs a reboot. Tons of my settings seem to "reset" magically on their own. For instance the time on the Automatic Ventilation will work, i set it to 5pm checked and the one on the right to like 1pm unchecked.

so it works, but come to the car in the morning and its like 4:32am and 6:55am random.

I swear i've got some bad flash in my control unit but i'm sure bmw uses technology to check or ecc or something.

Maybe the haxors are breaking into my car using wifi

It would have made alot more sense to just use a CF or SDHC card for the nav software. I mean 8GB would cover europe. Not like it would cost bmw much more than pressing a ton of outdated dvd's which piss off their customers that their 2008 build car comes with a 2007 dvd.

lame.

heck i've had several people (at several dealers) ask me for the url to the disc. i'm like dude don't go there you'll lose your job. if you can't find it, which is no harder than finding BMW GT1/DIS (those big black machines that look like an emissions computer) on the internet. lol

Alright, so due to terrible internet connection here in Afghanistan and the length of the download, I realize I cannot get this done out here. Anyone interested in making one and mailing it? Or, if anyone here is in the Bamberg area and would like to let me try to copy it that would be great. Not sure if that would even work but I am at a road block here with the crappy internet and not having an internet connection at my home in Germany once I re-deploy in 20 days!!!!! Anyway, I know this is kind of a long shot but the military bmw dealership I bought from in Germany doesn't include the DVD with the purchase of NAV and the cost of the european disc is out of this world.

I think the seeders came on because I am getting anywhere from 250-305 kbs download right now. It went from being a day to download yesterday to about 2 hours 20 min.
