I'm new here and haven't read every post but I just took delivery of my 328xi Coupe with iDrive, Nav and Ipod kit. As a software developer, I'd love to be able to create my own software for it obviously because the ipod integration could be better; most notibly, the slow scrolling is horrible.

What are the chances that BMW will give us the ability to:

1. Use pgUp/pgDown OR Select a Letter to jump to in a list of artists/albums etc...
2. Faster scrolling if we don't get #1.

Also... where do we find your articles JSpira?

I've already had several conversations with BMW about this. They are aware.

I've also encountered a problem where the haptic controller gets confused and jumps up to the top after I scroll down. This has only happened within the first few minutes of startup.

Most of my BMW related articles are in the Roundel but I just started writing for Business Traveler about cars; first article was BMW European Delivery.

I recently bought an ipod nano and connected it to the aux via the ipod connector given to me when i bought my bmw 320i a few weeks ago. I have iDrive on my 320i, and on the screen there's no playlists showing, just the audio sound coming out. How do i enable it to show the playlist? Software upgrade with the car or the ipod? Please advise.

When you get the iPod Interface, this will work.

If you have non-idrive, does the ipod (when connected) allow you to scroll through your songs which is displayed on the radio screen, or do you have to use the dial on the radio to scroll through songs. Thanks

Your question is not completely clear but in case you are asking if you can scroll ON the iPod, the answer is no.

Jonathan, here is the document on how to select the feature. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302250

The feature has to be selected for each file. In iTunes you can select multiple files and select this attribute in one step for all files selected. For a large number of files it took awhile process the files already on the iPod, but it processed the library on the hard drive very fast.

I gave playback a quick test (non-iDrive Logic7) in the garage with my iPod 80GB and the tracks do resume from where you left off when the car was shut down - they always started from the beginning before. It looks like this solves one of the annoyances with the iPod adapter. I hated it when a the same track started from the beginning every time I restarted the car.

THANK YOU alo!

Once connected the iPod click wheel controls are inactive. You have to scroll using the radio knob. For playlists the radio will only display the first 500 songs in the folder you are viewing. Major annoyance is that there is no way to PAGE or SEARCH through a list when scrolling. The quickest way I have found is to leave it in the track number display (default) and take a wag (I'm getting good at estimating) at the track number for the song I want and dial (which is fairly quick) to that number then display the List to find the track once in the ballpark.

Another interesting thing about this is the track number display maxes out at 999. So, for instance if you have 1495 songs and are not using a playlist you can scroll past 999 and the display shows 001, 002 and so on, but those tracks are actually 1001, 1002, etc. so when you see Track 495 displayed it may actually be Track 1495 on the iPod.

It works just fine in random - especially since alo's tip of using bookmarking on the files so they resume where you left off when you restart the car.

I'm having doubts about getting this due to possible software update issues. Does a 2007 335i require a software update?

I asked my service department's parts guy (girl actually) today and she said she has not heard of any issues and was pretty horrified when I told her about the story about the guy (posted here) that the dealer still have his car after 5 days. She also quoted me a price of 470 plus tax installed.

South Florida guys, if you read this, You guys know any prices from other dealers and where can i find the best deal?

Not the cheapest but considering the unit is $319 it is a pretty fair price.

I got quoted 500 from my dealer $320 for the part 2 hours of labor at 90 an hour...so similar price......if i can roll that into the price of the car its not going to be that bad....but $500 to control a 400 device....i didnt plan to spend almost a grand to listen to mp3's

I just got back from my dealer, I went to ask the cost of the Ipod interface, they told me that it is not compatible with the set up of my car. I am stoned.

They pointed to the M pack wheel as the problem, I am not sure about this.
I have the profesional radio, bluetooth, no cd-changer, no navi... as I said, I thought I had the right set up. Please give some advice, should I go somewhere else?

Thanks.

Does your wheel have the same functionality as the standard MFL? Then this should not be a problem.

The only thing I can think of is that they are thinking of the old non-MOST interface which required replacing buttons on the steering wheel.

Thats what I told the guy, my wheel has the same functions as the standard, except for the non aluminum case. Perhaps we havent got the latest interface here in Spain.

I think that I will try with another dealer, thank you!!
