I’ve seen the trans wrong both ways. Usually the rest of it is right. If someone is local and wants, it it’s free to reserve and set up an appointment or shipping to a closer store. If it’s actually a manual you could probably drive it for a year and flip it on BAT for a profit.

The carmax car is a manual, notice how the options sheet doesn't have option 205 automatic transmission listed.

It's a 6mt car. Too bad it's also xdrive. Nice color, almost as good as crimson.

Mdecoder is very temperamental it seems. I popped it up on my work pc in that picture and it worked perfect but I have had it before say that bs that I've used my maximum.

Using bimmer.work shows you a correct options sheet I found, but the transmission is inaccurate. That last car was a manual as you can tell because there is no option 205 automatic transmission. I will say the majority of the manuals are usually ordered with very little options.

So what is the reliable method to decide which transmission the car actually has through the vin? I think there's enough people participating in this thread that someone has to have a fool proof method.

Maybe it's a dealer that knows and they use it to see if it's the right transmission when it's posted with no pictures somewhere to snatch it up first though in which case, we won't find out.

It sounds like the reliable method for transmission is to look for the 205 option (auto). I paid for 100 decodes on new.mdecoder and it lists the correct trans though.
