First, Apple will be the first trillion dollar company, it's just a matter of when. Second, I don't know if you want to be putting your life savings into one stock period.

Full disclosure- I own 804 shares of aapl.

I've got about 20k in USD cash that is waiting to be invested; currently contemplating either:

RY
Shopify (IPO recently announced)
Tesla
Nice looking portfolio with some good diversification.

Thanks,

When I was younger I lost tons in my investments; back in 2012 I decided to make a fundamental change. I only invest in companies that I have some sort of personal connection to.

Thanks this new philosophy; my portfolio has done AMAZING over the past 2-3 years.

If you had 40k in cash sitting what would you do with it? Assume you have a 401k etc. Safe bets at making that cash really grow

How about a healthcare ETF like VHT? Healthcare has been on a tear for a few years now. I'm also seeing a lot of new construction within different pharma companies (I work in the construction field). They have to be gearing up for something.

Same philosophy that Peter Lynch preaches. Nice!

First you need to define a goal and what time frames you'd like to achieve that goal.

Personally if I was given 40k in cash I'd take 20k and invest it into something secure like a big bank stock that pays regular dividends. I'm in Canada so I'd probably put it into RBC, TD, CIBC

10k would go into apple and the rest would be split into different industries

Learning that hard lesson not to buy a large position right before earnings. At least you're near your entry price. It would have hurt more if you had bought on Monday!

LOL, you just asked what we thought of Apple, then your next post was "bought a bunch of shares!" I don't remember seeing a question on if now was a good time to buy.

Why are you investing in apple? Do you expect the stock to go up?

Do you think stocks in general are over-priced?

Do you even know how to calculate cost-basis?

99% people on this thread have no clue what they are doing or what the criteria for their stock-picking should be.

Go invest in some total market index funds. Day-trading and stock-picking doesn't work for the average institutional or individual investor. The majority of actively managed funds (aka stock-pickers) under perform their relevant benchmark over the long term and short term.

SPIVA scorecards don't lie:

I agree, day trading on ones own without really knowing the ins and outs of the market is not wise. You mentioned investing in total market funds S&P 500 as an example? You seem to allude to the idea that managed funds, such as mutual funds, do not perform, is my understanding correct?

Mutual funds and ETF's that are indexed tend to do very well because they have low cost and they are tracking market returns (hence their name).

Mutual funds and ETF's that are actively managed (trying to outperform the markets through stock-picking) have the potential to outperform the market, but the majority of the time they underperform. The same argument holds true for individual stock-pickers and day-traders.

If you click on the link that i provided, you can see research (conducted by the S&P) which proves this.

Although some managed funds can outperform, many do not. And you will always pay higher fees for an actively managed fund regardless of performance. An S&P index fund is a more cost effective way to invest in a blended fund that will give relatively the same performance as the S&P.

I believe you because of the flag below your avatar! haha

I don't really care to watch AAPL daily because it's a long term investment for me. However, I foolishly tied up too much capital in my account so I set a sell limit order and am just waiting for it to fill to give me some more play money.

How often are you guys buying/selling? Any scalpers on here?
