Something about the moon that just makes us want to take a picture of it, and funny how the handheld opportunity shots sometimes trump the tripod + remote etc, shots. Nice ones both Mark and Dave

Speaking of the moon, I bet they got great shots of it from this baby. I was in LA over the holiday and visited the science museum where the Endeavour is now on display.

So many times, when you plan a shot, the atmosphere doesn't cooperate fully and haze will ruin the sharpness. Other times, you just look up and think, "Holy crap, that's bright and clear." That's the time to grab your gear.

Great shot of the shuttle Ed. I tried to get a good shot at the Smithsonian and did okay, but wasn't entirely pleased. There was so much other stuff in the museum, it's hard to get the perspective that I was going for.

It's the same in LA. The hangar is just big enough to house the orbiter, so there is no room to back up, and of course there are people and little kids everywhere running around to deal with, along with a gift shop right under the nose. Supposedly this is not the final display configuration. They did have some huge prints of the move from the airport to the museum which are pretty awesome.

You can see how tight it is here. It's fine for looking at, but not so great for us camera types

BUNNY BATTLE!

First Strike by dcstep, on Flickr

I came across two cotton-tail rabbits in unusual posture yesterday, so I turned off the car-blind and watched with my 7D at the ready. I don't think that anyone gets hurt in a bunny battle, but they fight with enthusiasm and lots of speed.

Here's an Album on Flickr showing the entire encounter:

Thanks, Ed. Next time we're in NYC, I must go see the USS Intrepid museum. We've been going to NYC almost every year for the last decade and I have yet to stop there. There's a shuttle display there as well. I was actually in NYC the day they brought it up the river and loaded it on the Intrepid, but I found out about it on that evening's news in the hotel room. I was crushed that I missed it.

Saw that on your Flickr site, Ed. Love the duo-tone aspect. Plus the juxtaposition of the square bales and lines against the curves and bushes of the mountains. Some nice compositional contrasts there.

Male Goldfinch Picks Thistle Apart by dcstep, on Flickr

I saw a BIG patch of thistle with birds flying in and out, so I brought my 1,000mm and stool and sat right at the edge of the patch. This is one of many finches that approached close enough that no crop was needed. I cropped here only to square it up.
