So, my 2009 320D now has 104000 miles on the clock. I've been using fuelly for the last 67000 miles and the average for those is 53.6 mpg. Not bad at all as the car has seen 90% urban use for the last 18 months/7k miles.

It's served me well (owned from new/pre-registered) and the MPG has always impressed. We'll be parting ways soon as I am about to lease a 4-series GC.

I seem to get about 33mpg on a tank of mostly motorway driving taking it fairly easy. Commuting to work 10 mile each way probably gets about 27/28 mpg. N52 330i.

My last few tanks in the 335i have been:

27.4MPG
26.1MPG
29.8MPG

With my overall average for two years sitting at 26mpg

I had it sitting at 34.8mpg and 39.2mpg for quite a while (good half tank) on two occasions but then town driving dropped those.

ive only had my 330i auto for a few weeks and im getting around 30-31mpg over a tank, this is mostly dual carriageway and country lanes. I think it would do 40mpg on a motorway run. This is with momentum fuel and its the 272bhp engine.stonishing really, I dont hang around either.. However if isit in traffic or around town id imagine it would struggle to do 20mpg.

Filled up my car last night and quickly calculated how many litres of fuel i would need based upon my dash mpg read out and the number of miles id done on the tank.

it showed 30.1mpg and 288miles, approximately 44litres i though. I ended up putting in 49l so just over 26mpg, dont believe the on-board computer I think!. Still not bad considering that most of the tank was town driving.

2009 pre-lci 325d standard car

630 miles to a full tank

80% A roads work trip 100 miles round.

Works out about 48mpg

Very happy with that.

Also find the linear power delivery of the 6cyl engine intriguing.

Am used to small engine turbo diesels with a very different power delivery.

56 plate E90 330D M Sport- 21.7 to 22MPG (short trips, school runs and peak time running) and on a motorway run to Thorpe Park (2 hours each way) I got 33MPG.

For every £20 of V-Power I get around 100 miles.

That's pretty shocking for diesel - it might have issues? Our N53 330i does 32mpg on shortish trips and 40mpg on a run when driven sensibly.

Now see i thought that myself, posted those figures on another forum and someone said thats probably about right because of the style of driving.. odd thing is though it gets upto temperature fine and has recently had the crack in the engine sump repaired.. not sure whether that crack contributed to poor mpg?.. ill have to monitor it over the next few days. If it continues ill have to try maybe the MAF and MAP cleaning? Other than that i really dont know. Think ill start researching for a good diagnostic tool and good software to go with it.

<Update>
Well im not sure whether it was the oil sump repair, fresh engine oil, BP super fu or because i was driving at 60MPH but damn check this figure

I even floored it a few times (granted it knocked 3MPG off) but was still shocked to see it creep back upto 53ish

Agreed. 33MPG on the motorway for a 330d is awful.

How long had you been driving for in that picture? Water temp is low... hence your poor mpg, unless you'd only been driving for a few minutes

Ages mate, that MPG was when I was going to Thorpe Park so it was a good 4 hours worth of driving. I did boot it as well every now and again which instantly knocked off a few MPG but another 4 minutes of steady driving got it back to those figures so it was very consistent. As for the temperature, I was told by the dealer that the car would never get to 90 degree's because of the amount of air hitting the radiator? With town driving it can get over 90 easily

Your dealer is an idiot then.

You should get to 90ºc within around 10 miles even in winter, the fact it doesn't get to 90ºc and sit there rock solid shows your thermostat is shagged.

While your 'stat is shagged your car is over fuelling, you need to get it changed.

Thanks very much, so can I just confirm a few things.. my car can and does reach 90+ degrees on occasions and I do see it hit 97 at a standstill sometimes which I believe is when the fan kicks in? But as I say that is "occasions" I'm sure today I was in mid 80's and was driving for quite some time (town driving)

On the motorway, I was driving at 67 Degrees and achieving 52MPG.. it was because of that figure that I've sort of dismissed the thermostat as being an issue as I was quite impressed with that figure?

If my car is supposed to reach 92ish and be solid then there's my answer.. it definitely needs changing as it just doesn't work like that

It should reach 92ºc pretty quickly and stay there, if it fluctuates you know it is not working properly.

I change mine if it doesn't get passed 87ºc, if you only get to 80ºc it is truly knackered.
