Virgin Mobile Pre-Paid Bluetooth

Neither my wife or I make or receive many phone calls via our cell phones but we both consider it a necessity for emergences or as a way to provide rapid contact when needed.

We therefore use Virgin Mobile Pre-paid phones... $20.00 every 3 months (I have about $100 credit on mine.)

Virgin now offers two Bluetooth enabled phones, "Wild Card" and "Super Slice".

Has anyone tried to pair one of these phones with their BMW?
If so, a brief report would be appreciated.

I know this is an old post, but I just tired it on my K750i and it works mostly, except it never finishes loading my phone book. Not sure if it even starts, but my phone book does not get xfer'ed over.

For those with a working one, what is your firmware on the k750i?
My phone book is pretty large so I wonder if that's an issue?

In response to my own k750i question two post above this one, it seems the k750i does work, it took over 40 minutes for it to xfer over about 200 entries in my k750i phone book. After that it was all good. There is a release note about this - k750i is slow. I also moved my SIMS contacts from it to the phone memory since someone said that was their problem. I'm not so sure that was my issue (I had three contacts: voicemail, 411, and I forgot the other). So, if you have over 100 entries, just be patient.

I paired both my k750i and iPhone at the same time and it works without a hitch. I can even dial from the phone and it will automatically use the car's phone/mic.

Now, if I wanted privacy and talk on the phone without others in the car to hear, I'm not sure how I would manage that since I've never done that before, but I'm sure it is possible (not sure how to do it during a phone conversation).

Hello,
Did you get a response to your Tilt pairing question? I have the 8925 and it paired with no effort.

FYI - with Boost Mobile, you can keep an emergency phone active for $10 / 3 months. They too have some bluetooth-enabled phones.

BMW will be updating the official compatible phone list for bluetooth in the next 1-2 weeks according to BMW NA. Probably a good thing since, only one of the phones for Sprint is even still being sold new.

I have been using a Palm Centro with no problems...

One thing my dealer said and I wanted to check with the forum too, was that phone not authorized by BMW could burn out the BT system in the car... So essentially my Palm Centro works just fine but will in time burn out the BT in the headunit... Is this true? Do I really need to get a phone that is on the approved list? Sounds like a line of BS to me, as BT is a well used standard and does not vary phone to phone...

Regarding compatibility with the Bluetooth, is there any difference between the European software and the US software? I had my car's software upgraded back in September and my phone (Nokia 6230i), which had worked flawlessly for a year and a half, suddenly started having connection problems. I was told to update the software on the phone. Three weeks ago the whole Bluetooth system stopped working. I finally got a chance two weeks ago to upgrade the phone software but my phone-to-car pairing was lost in the process. Now the phone won't pair; can't even "see" the car. Another Nokia phone does the same; it will see my phone but not the car.

The dealership checked it out and found some faults. They had to get advice from BMW AG who said that it's because I have a US spec car and my cell phone isn't on the US compatibility list. Fact is, two years ago it wasn't on the list then, either, but it worked fully. It was then, and still is, on the compatibility list for the UK.

I don't want to have to get a new phone and service especially since my monthly cost is really, really cheap comparatively (100 minutes @ £8.50 / month). I have the phone cradle adapter too and a new phone may not have an adapter available.

My experience: Nokia N82 pairs and works but no phone book. This is a Symbian S60 3rd ed device I believe, anyone with any success transferring phone book from such device? Thought not... Why is this a problem in the year 2008??? Could somebody please make Munich do a quick call to Finland and figure this out? Or has BMW made some kind of agreement with that proprietary solution apple company always trying to rule out any healthy competition?

My old SE K750i transfers its phone book just fine. Why can't the bloody iDrive remember that phone book when I switch back to the Nokia device??
