Having just sat for 3 hours and read all 486 posts.... crazy... I have a question..
Earlier on someone asked that when people got the integration installed they would report back if the 3rd gen ipod's actually worked as oposed to confusing brochures saying they would / wouldn't. Has someone actually tried it to proe the point?? If not $500 for the int + $300 for a new Ipod is too much... 8Gb DVD's plus using the CD's will suffice. As for the UI, I can burn 1 DVD by Genre, another by artist, another by album... total cost $6.00 and of course it would mean it can't be stolen if it's not there. Still maybe the wife might surprise me if the 3rd gen works.... |

I just lucked out today. I spoke with my SA about a week ago to get this IPOD interface installed. Well he quoted me around $350-400. Well I was going to sit on it until I got all my stuff fixed properly from being rear ended.
Well I took my car in this morning to check out an error message I had. Well somehow the computer or my SA messed up and put the paperwork in to install the ipod stuff, even though I didn't want it yet. Well I called in like an hour ago to check if they figured out what the error was and my guy went and checked. He comes back and was like they didn't start but something got messed up and their almost done installing the ipod interface. He said he'd have them take it out then stopped and said, "how bout I give you a deal". So I ask what kind of deal? And he says $200+tax. You better believe I was all over that shit haha. I'd say with 98% confidence that I now have one of the cheapest dealer installed ipod interfaces out there lol. I guess I finally had a good day!

Cost ?
Ok so I got my car back yesterday from being installed, and while I love the iPod interface so far (although I too have experienced it go back to the beginning when I restart the car, and it bothers me that when you select CD1 it automatically goes to the whole library rather than just showing me the list of playlists, but whatever) but I'm a little frustrated of the cost. Now I knew from checking on here that it was going to be expensive (around 500$) and for some reason I was never quoted a specific price at the dealer other than for the adaptor itself (and BMW NA quoted me 2.5 hours labor), needless to say when I picked up my car they wanted to charge me 790$ for the installation. After about 45 minutes of arguing I got them to reduce it from 4 to 2 hours of labor, but still with a sticker of 580$ after tax it seems like I still got screwed compared to most of you out there. So my question is what did you all pay? If a bunch of you are less than that then I'm going back there to get some more of my money back.
Oh, and as for the actual installation process they claimed it took more than 8 hours because of problems with software programming (which I didn't think I should be paying for since it's BMWs bad programming not mine) which leads me to my second question... have any of you had them tell you that they can't get it to work with the Sirius radio? because that's what they told me so now not only did I pay 600$ for the iPod but I lost the sat. rad. that I paid 600$ previously for (which I though was outrageous as well) has this happened to anyone else or is my dealer really as retarded as I think they are? Thanks! |

There is no reason it can't work with satradio so they need to fix it.
In terms of total price, I think it wasn't bad.

Silly question, I just bought a 30G iPod 2 months ago, and it plays video... is that the 3rd generation iPod that the OEM iPod adapter have problems with? After trying several iPod solutions (see the iPod solution sticky), I'm now seriously thinking about paying the $500 - $600 to install the OEM iPod Adapter, but like to make sure it will work perfectly with my iPod.
Any thoughts? Thanks. |

The 30 gig iPod with video is "Generation 5". The current generation is 5.5 but there are only small differences over the 5Gs (brighter screen, better battery life). The Generation 3 iPods are the ones with the four touch sensitive (or not) buttons below the screen (they also were the first with the dock interface at the base and work with many peripherals such as the MOST adaptor, albeit with limitations compared to the Generation 4 and later models). Generation 4 integrated the four button functionality into the click-wheel. My wife's 5 Gb Generation 1 iPod (Firewire....) is still going strong.

i was wondering what you guys are doing when selecting tracks that are in the middle of the list? the idrive controller fights me so much when i am scrolling, that it only goes about 2 songs per turn.

Has anyone validated yet that you can play MP3 data CD's in your CD player and also have the iPod MOST retrofit installed? Since I got the iPod interface finally installed and working under Progman v24 I lost the ability to play MP3 data CD's. I was informed I can't have both and I don't understand why as the two don't seem related to me. Mine was a May 2005 E90 Build date and had to have a special MP3 Bulletin SI B65 30 05 performed on it last year just to gain this capablity.

This post may be pertinent to Sirius problems with the iPod adapter:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42529 Apparently a Progman 24 software update (such as might be done during iPod Adapter installation) will kill the Sirius. |
