Been a while since my last post, so I thought I would share a bit of an update on what's been happening with the car recently

So the last major mod was the installation of the low mount turbo. It has been performing flawlessly with the new B58 coils. Still running on the old tune while waiting on Tim to free up some time to do a new tune but the car doesn't seem to know any better and is quicker and more responsive then before. Be interesting how much more we can get out of it with a new tune

Long warm crank is still a mysterious problem that no one seems to be able to solve, but its not getting any worse, so will have to wait until something eventually fails and then we might get the bottom of the matter

In terms of other work, much of it has been on the car audio system, which is sounding pretty good. If you haven't read the previous posts its all back there in the build thread, but Ill drop a link to a short vid on the system below. More recently I changed out the rear 15" subs from the acoustic elegance SB to the acoustic elegance IB, which is basically just going from their sealed box to their infinite baffle version of these subs. In short they are both amazingly realistic and dynamic subwoofers, but I find the SB versions more smooth and buttery then the IB version (hard to describe but it makes sense when you hear these side by side)

The other change made was I replaced the SB acoustics 10" front sub with a Hertz MPS 250 10" to give the system more kick. The Hertz is a 1000w sub while the SB acoustics is a 300w sub. The extra power directed to the hertz gives the system the system that much needed "punch in the chest" sensation that it lacked before.

The last bit of work to be done is to finish the panels in the boot. Trunk panel fabrication is beyond my skill set, so Jay from Wicks Wires is helping me out with this. I am just waiting on him to get back from a job interstate to finish this off, although its been over 12 months since we cut the templates and then parked the project due to other stuff coming up

Otherwise this build is pretty much complete.... once we get a new tune, solve the warm crank issue and finish the trunk panels, I think Ill call it done...... then maybe time for a part out jokes !!!

Enjoy

I have to get a listen to your car audio system one of these days... I have a setup in my 1M that's very similar...

Also, do you know if your fabricator has any plans to sell a bottom mount kit?

Anytime Pyrat would love to have a listen to your set up as well... we are having a mini meet at Pakenham on sat 29 June if you want to bring your car down, let me know and I can share the details

Vincent Lim did all the fabrication work on spcgry, mine was the second low mount he has done. I dont think he is planning to put out a kit or anything, but if you can convince him to do a project for you, you wont be disappointed.

NEW FRONT SUB

No mod number on this one as its technically a replacement not a mod

Regular readers will know that this car has been through a few iterations in pursuit of great sounding car audio

It all started with a plug n play set of focals, followed by an audison amp/dsp with some critical mass speakers in the doors. Then those terrible metal ball pods hanging off the door cards and A pillars. Before being done properly with dash mounted mids, IB midbass in the kicks and a trunk full of amps

The weakest link in the system imo, has been the front sub, which for the past year or so has been filled by a 10" SB Acoustics SW26DAC76-4

By all accounts a capable 10" sub that plays very nice, given its in a tiny 11L box, but the system lacks that impactful kick/punch in the upper bass range.

Enter the Hertz MPS 250 S2, a new 10" shallow sub woofer release by hertz in the last year or so

The main difference between the SB Acoustics and the Hertz MPS250 is the SB is rated at 300w and the Hertz at 1000w

Hooked up to a Helix C one monoblock amp and the Hertz can really stretch its legs

So how does the Hertz rate.... well its definitely an improvement, with more kick in the upper bass and that chest thumping impact when the system is turned up !!!

I call this mission complete

If you are a man and plan on having children or value your twins between legs, probably not a good idea to be a passenger in Socket car.

No mate not VRMs ... Just a new set of the GTC AFF1s I have had sitting in storage for a while.

Picked these up a couple of years back when I knew they were one of the last sets available

Jumped in the car today to find the passenger side front and rear foot wells had filled up with water !!!!
Has been raining here for a few days and first I thought I must have left the window open or something as there was so much water

After using a bucket to get rid of most of the water, I knew I had to strip the interior because the carpets were saturated, as would be the sounded deadening on the floor pan
So an hour later and the interior looked like this

So with the help of the missus and a hose, the source of the leak turned out to be a blocked sunroof drain.....

Which I must say is easier and cheaper to fix then a leaking windscreen

In case anyone has the same problem in the future, I have thrown together a quick DIY on how to clear a blocked sunroof drain

You can find it in the E90post DIY section... the link is provided below

https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...7#post31308157

Is probably a good idea to clear these out occasionally, instead of waiting for the car to fill with water..... lesson learned

Happy reading

If you are ever thinking of selling your rims drop me a PM.

Shattered I didn't get a set when they were around.
