Setting the obvious learning curve that COBB has to go through aside: To answer your question as to why I consider GIAC to be better: * Stage 1 on GIAC is designed to work on full stock cars and on cars with mild mods such as intakes and exhausts. The software will also adjust between 91 and 93 octane fuel. The Cobb map is designed for stock cars only. They specifically state that. * Cobb is yet to release Stage 2 for cars with modified downpipes and intercoolers. And I am pretty sure that they will follow their existing mentality: create a custom map depending on the type of mods you have. So you will see a map for Stage 2 with full catless downpipes and intercooler. There will be a separate map for downpipes with high-flow cats and another one for DCI and another one for cars with no secondary cats, etc etc etc. You get the picture. GIAC already accommodates for such variations in their Stage 2. Austin from GIAC pretty clearly explained that the GIAC S2 requirements are better downpipes with max 1 set of HFC cats, intake and aftermarket intercooler. Additional improvements of the flow will automatically generate additional power gains. With COBB you will need to get a different map. * GIAC Stage 2 + gives you the ability to run 98/100 Octane fuel or methanol (granted there is no meth safety yet) The S2+ map contains timing and ignition corrections instead of extra boost. * GIAC monitors EGTs. COBB does not. Does that make sense? Guys, don't get me wrong here. I absolutely adore the ability to reflash the ECU at home with a handheld device. All things aside, this is by FAR the greatest thing that has come to our cars on the tuning front. I would happily dump GIAC the minute COBB releases S2 for our cars with the same proven abilities as GIAC.

Lets not forget that COBB S1 is 15.x psi @ max torque and GIAC S1 is 13.x psi @ max torque. This explains why COBB makes a bit more power than GIAC

Those dynos showed 15 for about 500 rpm low down on the range and taper to a reasonable level when the rpms are high and the turbos are really spining up.

uumm. my point is that if you lower the boost on COBB to GIAC levels (so that you can compare apples to apples), they will make pretty much the same power and torque. So that makes COBB only as good as, not better when it comes to power output....
