Great work! I tried my own hand at fixing some curb rash on my 1er a while back with similar results. No curb rash on the IS for now (knock on wood).

Also, I like the look of the slightly wider stance you now have. I haven't added spacers to mine for fear of rubbing. Potholes in Seattle are horrendous. Also, when I look at my stock height rears, there looks to be little room between the tires and the arc of the fender. The fronts on the on the other hand appear to have a much wider gap. Not digging on that look...
Thanks. IF you have the 18" 313, do the spacers! The car looks very different. It looks as it should have come from the factory. Even the 313 18" look much better. I just installed them, but no signs of rubbing. I've done spacers before, even in very bad roads and have had no issues.
I have the 313 in 19"

Yeah, I can't advise you on that, but they sure are beautiful wheels. Cheers!

19's will rub with spacers. Confirmed. But I'm used to it. Only on severe bumps on the rears and full lock turn reversing on the fronts.

Conversely, I can confirm they don't rub, at least in the rear. I run OE 19" 313's with 245/35-19 and 275/30-19 Nitto NT05's and use a 10 mm spacer in the rear with no rubbing under any conditions. The fronts rub when turning with no spacer. 235/35's didn't with spacers.

+1

Don't know how you guys got hung up on spacers again, unless you get 20mm or something crazy, all you're hearing is the front wheel possibly rubbing against the oil cooler plastic in the wheel well

Honestly, I don't know why I'm talking about spacers either . Sometimes I find myself thinking about mods just for the sake of it. Honestly, I love my LMB IS pretty much the way it is.

I have 12mm in the front. The rear I forgot but it has to be more than 10mm since it causes rubbing. I didn't choose to put the spacers on as the previous owner did. But I don't mind them.

Congrats,
I almost picked this car up from Kelly at Carbine in New Orleans, but it fell through eventually even though I really wanted the slicktop.

What a small world. Kelly did mention someone from FL that had been interested in buying it. Congrats on the 2012 LMB. post pictures!!!

Here is my CPO 2012 335is 6MT coupe.
Took me about 5 weeks to find the one, and got lucky to eventually find it in north FL.
The car belonged to a forum member who traded it in to the BMW dealership where he worked at.
My first mod was to add the high kick spoiler

Thanks guys, the car came with the M3 style side skirts, painted reflectors and painted calipers which is a nice bonus

The spoiler is JBSpeed who is a forum sponsor.

So after a couple of weeks with the M4, but only 4 days of driving it and never more than 30 miles away, here are my first impressions.

Engine: The power and torque are definitely there and impressive. I STILL haven't driven the car with the engine or anything else in Sport+. I feel like I'm saving myself for it . To feel the torque, I shift the car with S2 and engine in Sport to let it rev high and floor to pass cars, and judging by the sport gauges I'm not even hitting over 350 hp and lb/ft yet. It feels fast, and is fast. In my 335is, when I was driving off from stoplights and the car next to me was pulling away, I would gas just a little and the engine and exhaust noise were loud enough that in my mind I felt like I was showing off, so I would level off and invariably the other car would pull away. I'm talking soccer mom SUVs or Honda Accord coupes, we were hardly racing. Now even in Efficiency engine mode (and in D the tranny tries to stay under 2k RPM) I find myself pulling away at every light and I don't hear or feel anything to indicate I'm going that fast, but I check my speed and I'm 10-20 over the limit. Arguably, that could also be differences in the sound and engine feel of the 335is vs the M4. But ultimately, just out of an 335is, in the M4 even if I don't think I'm going fast I'm actually going quite fast.

Exhaust Sound: This was one of the biggest criticisms I read and saw on reviews of the M4. Especially when I loved loved loved the sound of the 335is. It's weird to me that they could be so apparently different, when both engines are twin turbos. So far, in Efficiency, the exhaust is definitely unimpressive. Higher pitched, tinny. Especially when standing and at startup. It gets throatier at higher speed, but no great gurgle like the 335is. But when I'm in Sport mode, the exhaust note definitely gets deeper. Is it just the sound through the speakers? Don't think so, I've been driving with the windows down and stereo off, and synthetic gurgle and outside gurgle is improved over itself. So somewhere in there it seems to get better in the sportier engine modes and a warmer engine. And that's just city driving; on the freeway the engine and exhaust noise under load sound great. So don't feel like I'm missing out on it there, just not quite as good in low speed, city driving, with the engine in Efficiency.

Transmission: So for my M4, I decided to get a DCT. That's actually not true, I decided the transmission wasn't a factor like getting the 6MT was when I was shopping for the 335is. So the M4 I found that I got an amazing deal on happened to have a DCT. So far, I don't *regret* it, but my mind says I should. Basically, when I first picked up the car I made a point of only using S, so I would need to shift. It was weird. The paddles are on the wheels, so sometimes I was flashing the high beams, or I couldn't find them if I was in a turn. So I tried it with the shifter itself, which I actually like more because I'm naturally used to one hand on the wheel at lights and one near the shifter. Not on it mind you, that wears out the gear bearings. But hovering over it, quick grip to shift, that's what I've been used to my whole life. But on the DCT, I can't judge the gears based on the engine noise or feel of the gearshift, or shake in the peddles, anything I'm used to. I have to be looking at the RPMs. It's much less intuitive to what I'm used to after learning to drive in a manual. And I've owned from a '97 Jeep Cherokee with a clutch as heavy as the car itself, to an E46 to an E92 to this M4. In between I had some automatics, one a Volvo V50 with the "Sport shifter" that I hated. But for now at least, there's too much new technology in the car that's distracting, and I don't get enough feel to use the S mode, so I keep it in Drive most of the time because it's easier. Generally though, in S2 (S3 is the highest setting) it feels perfectly responsive when I do shift. Other autos, I would shift and there was a palpable delay before anything happened. That is probably the case in S1, but S2 the shifts are well timed, up or down, and comparable to the time and distance I would experience when shifting with a manual. But they're cleaner. I always used to feel a little bad for my passengers when I was shifting in a manual and they would visibly lean forward from the inertia. When I'm driving, I push against the pedals so I don't really feel it. Newton's 3rd law. But when I'm a passenger I get car sick EVERY TIME. I don't know how people deal with that. So as far as smoothness, DCT in S is great. In D, it's felt a bit sluggish unless I'm in Sport modes. But that's the point after all.

Technology: Ridiculous. I have the Driver's assistance and Park Assistance options, Executive, LED headlights, etc. I make a point of keeping everything On, because my philosophy is the more doo-hickeys the more there is to fail. So I want that stuff running while I still have warranty coverage. Especially with such low miles (car has less than 13K and I average less than 3K a year). Lots going on. I tried the Parking Assistant once, but could've sworn it would've curved my rims so I interjected. Even still love how much more there is than the 335is, or even the E92 M3. There's coding I feel I still need to check out or I miss, like the side mirrors auto folding with the keyfob, or all the craziness with the LED headlights i see on YouTube. That was one of the main reason I wanted to switch to the F-series, more technology, so I'm pleased. Still ticked there's no ventilated seats, but I imagine the perforation helps with that...

Suspension & Brakes: In comfort mode, this suspension is WAY more forgiving than my 335is' was. There's a handful of specific road bumps in and around NOVA I'm used to, used to feeling the tires hit the wheel wells. But the M4 has been way softer on all of them, but still feels solid. I know that it CAN be harder in Sport or Sport+, so it's good to know it can be this soft. Also makes me glad I have the adjustable suspension, especially with these lousy D.C. area roads. Even with non-RFTs on my 335is (my winters were Blizzaks), the M4 is way more forgiving. Brake bite is terrific, way stronger than on the 335is. Not as much as the last 911 I drove, but more than enough. Speaking of which:

Compared to a 911: I've driven a handful of 911s. My dad's owned several, now has a '17 Carrera I haven't driven yet, but had '13 or '14 911 Turbo I did. He "downgraded" to a later model, higher tech car with less power, but he's enjoying it. He was the one who originally got us kids into Bimmers when we were growing up. Now in retirement he's "graduated" to Porches. I also drove a '16 911 just a few weeks ago like I mentioned in my earlier post. Generally, they feel VERY light, and very fast all the time. Some Porches the interior has felt cheap or plasticy to me, but I think that's because they're built to be light. In the last 911 it felt insanely responsive, even at low speeds. But the M4 feels more "solid". There's more car, it feels more comfortable. Yet when I floor it or brake, I can still feel insane power. As lithe and sharp as the 911? No. But that's why there's a 911.

Functions: I have this category because I'm comparing positive and negative reviews I've seen. I LOVE that I can let my foot off the gas at a standing stop and the car isn't automatically in gear, D or S. That's what I'm used to doing in a manual after all, so it's natural for me. It's similar for Park for me, but not others, which can make it weird. As the YouTube champ Nick Murray says, it's weird for me to leave my car in D or S and then have to turn the engine off to leave it in Park. I used to do that in manuals when I was on a hill or something. I knew leaving it in gear, with parking brake, was way more stable. With an auto, it helps that the car won't engage gears with the brake off, like I said I liked before, but that's weird for anybody used to an auto where you absolutely cannot let off the brake. I got my car inspected recently, and the guy at the center asked me "how do I put it in park?" I found myself giving a whole speech and mini-lesson, just so this guy I didn't know wouldn't let his foot off the gas with the car right next to me. Weird. But if that's the price of a car I can let off the gas at a light without moving? 150% worth it.!

Verdict: What's my verdict? Stoked. STOOOOOKED. Is it a 911? No, but feels like more car. Not more sporty, but more "stuff". More car than my 335is too. More car yet for me to learn, more to experience. Also, the mileage has been about 24 on the highway. That was ridiculously important for me, since I enjoy my cars by taking long weekend drives. If I was getting 19 MPG even at highway coast, like I knew I would on an E92 M3, I'd have been furious. I haven't coasted yet, but at reasonable speeds it's been good, and then I can insanely floor it. It's the perfect daily driver and Sport/track car, just like the reviews have been saying....huh.
