Well, let me tell you. My first BMW is the 335i, went to the dealer last night and picked it up. AMAZING car....

I'm looking forward to getting this chip+exhaust ( i know it's wayyy more than a chip, but I dunno what the TRUE definition would be ) setup. My only question is, I have a lease on my 335. Will getting the exhaust void or disrupt the lease in any way, as long as I put it back to stock before trading back in? Same with the "chip"?

Fantastic work Shiv....I'm sooo excited for this to come to production.

I'm in the Baltimore/DC area, so if by chance you need some local testers/show-offs for any reason...let me know.

Thanks,
Tom Callahan

I was thinking about leasing before i decided to buy and i asked the dealer this question. they said you can do whatever you want, as long as its stock when you return it. and you dont go over your miles of course.

Is this True?

I heard (read) this on another forum (DTM) re the 335's turbo:

"The way they do boost control means every boost controller ever made will not work. The wastegates default to open, not closed. You need to apply vacuum to create more boost. Turbo cars are usually built stronger than needed stock, but most manufacturers intentionally made it very hard to squeeze more power out of them due to warrenties, hense the extreme difficulty in making more boost out of the new turbo engine by BMW."

I believe that shiv spoke about this earlier in his posts. He has been able to get full control over the boost with his XEDE. While it is true that BMW's system is different he still was able to get it to do what he wanted.

Quick update:

During the last week or so, we've been working on a dynamic timing feature that induces an additional 0.3 second timing retard under sudden load conditions. This keeps that 1psi overboost during sudden WOT conditions from inducing knock. This transient retard means that we dont have to apply a large static retard timing under boost. Which means that the car makes even more torque than before (that is how we got up to 370lb ft at the wheels). Peak power is still capped at 330-335 due to limitations in octane and the induction/turbo system.

So yes, we are finally satisfied with the results. So now we are finally ready to offer turnkey conversions to local customers.

At this time, we're looking for folks who wan either the Xede or the Xede/Exhaust combo. The whole job (install and dyno tuning) will take 1-2 days. Leave your car with us (in Danville, CA) in the AM and pick it up the next day in the PM. Total intro price is $1300 for Xede alone or $3000 for Xede/Exhaust. This includes install and custom dyno tuning.

As for gains, expect at least 30whp and 30lb-ft of torque. Its been a while since our car had the stock exhaust so I'm basing these numbers off of what we saw a while back when it was running the factory exhaust. Of course, we have made a few improvements on the ECU tuning front since then so who knows? All customers will get a before/after dyno sheet. And the Xede install will be 100% reversable.

That's it. If you're interested, PM me and we can make arrangements. If you are not local or cannot visit us, no need to PM me just yet. We'll announce when we're ready to ship kits out. Just need to get a few local cars up and running first.

Cheers,
Shiv

Sounds great. Glad that you're going to do a few Xede-only installs first; looking forward to hearing from those first Xede modded 335i drivers and more from you on the Xede-only kit when they're ready to be shipped out. Thanks again.

I thought you were running something like 350/370.

Where does all the HP/Tq go?

Im thinking the "at least" is where it went? No?

The car, with both the exhaust and Xede, is at 335whp and 370lb-ft of torque on 91oct. With just the Xede, it will be considerably lower (esp. in the torque department).

It's strange that BMW did a fairly decent job tuning the ECU close to it's fullest potential, but from your testing, it seems as if the stock dual exhaust is very restrictive. I mean the Xede-only kit may add about 30HP/30TQ, yet the Xede & your custom cat-back exhaust adds like 50HP-60HP/50-60TQ??? I know that for most cars, just adding a custom cat-back exhaust alone (without the Xede) would probably only add another 5-15HP at best. Please explain.

Ill try to explain a little for shiv... i believe he already explained earlier. Its the combo of the XEDE and the exhaust that allow the great numbers. Without exhaust the XEDE can only be tuned to a certain point say 50% of its full ability - the exhaust greatly reduces backpressure so shiv is able to really jack up the performance with the XEDE. I hope i explained clearly.

I am interested in a Xede only (no exhaust). My car is leased, so the option of just plugging in a piggy back unit is much more appealing that making any reald mods.

You are putting out 335BHP with the exhaust, so does that mean we are probably closer to 310-315BPH with Xede only? If it is close to that, it is still almost 30HP more than stock... not bad for $1300 plug-n-play mod!

Does the $1300 include the switch you have been talking about that would allow two different MAPs? If so, how hard is that going to be for a self-install?

Thanks for all your hard work shiv, can't wait to get mine!

No, he is not putting out 335 bhp, he is putting out 335whp which is approximately 380bhp with exhaust. Without the exhaust, you will probably see probably 310+ whp (most likely much more than this.

So, without an exhaust you are looking at over 30 WHP with just the XEDE. Much more than 30 horsepower at the crank.

I too was thinking of doing this. I have a place that can do the exhaust for half the price. and also don't have to travel 8 hr to get to bay area.
