Same here, but it'll probably change once I get that S54 + 6MT into my E46.

Maybe sometime down the line. I'm not quite sure what direction I want to take this car in. Could be expendable track rat, stripped and restored classic, or just left alone as a beater.

would a m50/m52/s50/s52 in an e30 make a good daily driver? is it reliable?
one of those setups in an e30 sedan would be sweet if you could drive it everyday.

S50/S52 isn't such a fuel-efficient option for a DD, but they're all tried and tested swaps. Reliability isn't really an issue if the swap is done right.

maybe an m50/m52 swap would have a better balance between power and practicality?
only thing that sucks about the m50/m52/s50/s52 is the shitty cooling system. i had an e34 525i with the m50, and having the water pump go out was no fun at all. i hope it's been improved. before i sold my car (jan 2006), they came out with the water pump with a composite impeller. not sure how much better those actually were though. that said, the e90 cooling system isn't much better. my water pump failed at 66k miles.

BMW hasn't gotten the cooling system right on a lot of engines, haha. My dad's E39 is still collecting dust because the cooling system failed and the M52 has a warped head. A lot of E46s (both M52 and M54) have water pumps with plastic impellers that break. The list goes on...
Yep, M50s have the water pump issue as well as failing VANOS, but at least you can get earlier models without VANOS. Compared to an M20B25, you'd get a little more hp and torque (I think around +20/+20) with an M50B25 and better fuel economy. It's probably more worthwhile to go to a M52B28 so you get a better torque curve while still keeping fuel consumption reasonable. M50 is cheap though, because it can already be found as an OBD I motor.

My friend has a m50 DD. I think there are no problems with it, even passes CA smog and all the gauges work too.

Oh yea, when I was installing the SSk, I put a couple of small dents in the aluminum trim...doh! So I had to order a new piece. It had some older dents on it before but these new ones around the shifter compelled me to just get a new piece with ashtray cover.
