I tried to install AP today. But it says "unknown ROM". What do I need to do?
Send the ECU Backup to somebody at COBB?

Hopefully they work quick. Because waiting for the AP while in delivery is one thing. But having it here on my desk and not be able to use it is killing me!

Normally takes 1-2 days. For EU they are still building the ecu versions.

That would be great. Yeah here in Germany its nearly impossible to be the AP in a normal Store. No Wonder COBB doesn't have all the ECU Versions ready.

ok,decision is made- the AP is right for me.
few questions-
1) will i need a O2 fix with cattless DP's with using the AP?
2)what are bare minimum mods for stage 1? my tuner is dropping coin on the cobb software so ill be doing a pro tune BUT im going to do a base run and follow that up with a few pulls with every mod/tune. im lucky enough to have a dyno5 min from my house.
3)i know most dont use it but whats the feedback on the economy tune? given my job i tend to not drive the nicer vehicles to work,which mean my wife does,and her drive is 65 miles round trip. would her driving normally with stage 1/mods be any worse/better than the economy tune?
4)this one will prob stump a few. on my superduty i run a "Y" adapter for my obd port. i do this because i have a 6 in 1 gauge that runs off the port BUT i needed to leave the port open for code clearing and flashing(i do my own diesel tunes for my ford)
without me messing up my ecu,could i do something similar? say a boost gauge combo and leave the other port for the cobb? or would a standard gauge like turner offers and leave the main port open?

1. Only need an o2 sim if running stage 1 or trying to pass emissions.

2. base mods are essentially nothing but for good measure a new panel filter or dci would be great...Both under 100

3. Gas mileage is same unless getting into the pedal often.

So I made a couple runs at the local dragstrip last night on Stage 2+FMIC agressive (I have the necessary mods, and I mixed 3 gallons of 104 octane with my 6 gallons of 91 octane in the car). Felt pretty strong, but just want to make sure everything is looking good (which I think it does) so that I can keep running that map at the strip.

Anyone see anything of concern with these datalogs? Keep in mind, I am at 5800+ feet in elevation, and DA at the track was 9500ft at one point. Used Zasquatch's grapher, so no RPM, but based on boost you can see what is going on.

so until i run stage 2,ill need to spend another 80$ on a o2 sim? great.

You dont need to buy a 02 fix, just install the dps and flash stage 2.

Looks good but boost seems low, might just be the thin air - not sure. Email Cobb for their opinion. I hold 16-15 psi through mid to upper RPMs. What time did you run?

1. Nope -- On Stage 1 there won't be any emission codes (Lambda) getting triggered so you're fine w/ just the tune (maybe a K&N drop-in filter to upgrade over the BMW paper filter)
2. Bare minimum for Stage 1 are a well maintained car & 93 octane if you're running the Aggressive tune. If you only have access to 89/91, some people have had success blending in some Race Gas/E85 & confirming w/ data logs.
3. Fuel economy IMO gets better since you don't need to hammer it every time to pass someone. The car is going to have a lot more power once it's tuned, so if your wife is a speed demon your MPG will def go down.
4. I don't know how sensitive the BMW software is to being worked like that (especially if you decide to run a boost gauge & data log through the OBD). Just to be safe I'd buy an actual gauge & there's actually a lot to pick from: Turner sells an analog gauge that goes in the center/driver-side air vents. I don't know who manufacturers the other ones, but you can buy a digital display gauge that goes in the airvent closest to the door or a 3-analog gauge pod that goes into the ashtray in front of the gearshift. IMO the 3-gauge display is the nicest & looks the cleanest, but the trade-off is you lose the cigarette plug. This could get messy if you don't have NAV and want to use a portable GPS (have to plug it into the center console).

13.07s @ 107.7mph, which is pretty reasonable for up here, especially at 9500' DA! Only a very small handful have broken into the 12s, and those are usually XI and meth.

2.04s, I am rear wheel drive & open diff (for now) with 275 width Conti Extremecontact DW. That's about as low as I have ever gotten (with probably 10 days out there or so).

I got the new firmware for the AP today. Tanks again @ COBBtuning.
And of course I did the Installation immediately with Stage 1+ Sport.

Works perfectly so far. Only the flashing is not that fast, but ok. Takes about 9 min.

Now I have to make a logfile, right?
In which gear and with which RPM do I get the best results?
I thought it would be best if I start in 4th gear and go on until 5th or 6th.

Or is 3, 4 and 5 better?

I will try also to do a log for Stage 1+ aggressive.

Another question regarding fuel. I live in germany an we have 95, 98 and >100 RON. which one should I use for Sport map and which one for aggressive. Or is there no way to tell without a logfile?

After you have flashed for the first time where it saves your stock file, it will only take about a minute to flash again with a new map.

Log 3rd at least, you will probably never get to 5th because at WOT 4th will get you up to 130ish MPH (if AT)....unless of course you plan on logging on the Autobahn (jealous if so).

Yeah I will log on the Autobahn. When I'm finished here at work it will about 4:30AM so nobody will be there except me. More than enough space for Speeds >250 KPH

Oktoberfest and Autobahn the 2 best things about Germany!
