I'm selling because a new M2c is due to arrive at the dealer this week. I need to thin down the fleet in order to justify that purchase. We'll see. I haven't made a decision yet. I have not really enjoyed any of the Fxx generation cars, but I'm hoping the M2c will feel like an exception. And, obviously, I would be betting that the next gen M2 (g87) will not be a better driver's car than the f87. Not certain that any of my assumptions are correct. -Michael Last edited by ihbase; 06-21-2021 at 06:53 PM.. Reason: grammar / spelling |

The way these auctions seem to end on BAT is always a crapshoot. I remember last fall, there was a 45k mile, no frills e91 6MT xDrive that ended for 35.5 and everyone was in disbelief...yet, other prime examples since have gone for less.
This one being a six speed, lemans, RWD, single hump, true M sport (non-conversion) with a choice interior color - would expect 30-32, but wouldnt honestly be surprised if it ended at 27-28. Would definitely swap out that wood interior trim for some nice brushed aluminum pieces but thats just me. Maybe everyone is just really holding back and not showing their cards until the 11th hour...or maybe the BAT peanut gallery hyper-focusing on the undercarriage rust is giving people hesitation? Who knows. Pretty car - probably will not find another like it...good luck to seller. Oh - and that Dinan axel back...yum. Probably about as close to an MPE sound as you're going to find. Really too bad BMW stopped offering the MPE as it gives the car so much character. |

BaT is a fickle site I agree. I am guessing either $35 or $28, like you say. I do think the focus on the rusted components could hurt. Last I looked, surface rust on a swaybar did not make the car drive differently. Rust on the body, that would be different.
That car is a looker. Makes me with I had purchased a 2011, LeMans blue, RWD, mSport, 6 speed, MPE, bilsteins, dk grey interior, from Cars and Bids a few months back that went for $20,500. Not in as nice shape as this current one, but did have only 70K and had lived in CA and GA. I was about 2 hours from the car. Should've, would've, could've - oh well, too late now. Quote:

I want to - but no one has bumper covers in stock and no clue how long until they'll be available again.

There are some results that really had me shaking my head but to each their own. The LeMans car is the PERFECT spec in my eyes. I wish I held out for a more exciting color combination than black on black but there are only a handful of cars with my ideal spec: RWD 6MT M Sport single hump xenon. The LeMans car is worth paying a premium for if you want that spec and color combo. The rust to me is a non-issue as it appears to be limited to parts the bolt up and has not found its way into the body itself. Around the 75k-100k mark is when these cars really start to need a suspension refresh. Throwing on 335i brakes and new hardware all around as well as a new diff whether it be an LSD or shorter ratio 3.73 from an automatic makes sense as well. My point is that everything outside of the rusty calipers and subframe is due for replacement anyways. For anyone DIY inclined, it's not an awful process to refresh all of that (says the guy with a 3.73 sitting in his garage floor!). As far as the paint work goes, it's a 10 year old car and the vast majority of cars of this vintage and mileage have had some paintwork at this point. I think around the $30-35k mark seems like the right price for this car. Had it been rust free and all original paint, $40k would be a slam dunk.

It feels like this one should go for high 20s but no one knows until the timer stops.

I wouldn't just search for ones with pdc and such because oftentimes junkyard workers have no idea what the hell they have. Sometimes I've found cars with say an engine part I want like airbox and the car that had it didn't show up under airbox. Car-parts search engine isn't the best

Advice / interest in damaged wagon?
Copy of a post I just threw on Reddit.... I'm hoping someone is interested in reviving my unicorn!
My manual RWD E91 with the M-sport package was hit a week ago while on a road trip far from home and the insurance company is claiming it as a total loss despite relatively minor damage. We're still sorting out the valuations, but I don't think the insurance company is going to fully appreciate the unicorn that it is. Even if they do financially value it, I'd love to see the car end up in the hands of someone that appreciates it for what it is. I'm moving on regardless - my family is in need of a bigger car, and repairing this economically will take hands on DIY time that I just don't have. My 130k mile car was mechanically well cared for - all leaks dealt with, meaning the subframe was dropped to fix the common oil pan leak, oil filter gasket replaced, valve cover and gasket replaced. Zero error codes. Clutch and flywheel replaced a year ago, shifter linkages refreshed with it. Front suspension bushings and control arms replaced 1.5 years ago. Blah blah all fluids replaced multiple times, blah blah lots of other small things fixed. 330i intake swap with Turner motorsport tune. BMW performance suspension and sway bar. So it's lower than stock (1" lower than base wagon, 0.5" lower than sport package), but not so low it scrapes or the suspension camber goes to shit. Front camber plates and a square wheel setup (yep, I replaced the staggered setup with matching OEM rear wheels up front) makes this car handle fairly neutral, which was important to me. Cosmetically, the right rear quarter panel kissed the wall after a turn 4 spin at Laguna Seca and the off insurance paintwork I got done wasn't great. It was on my list to redo at some point. No airbags, no glass broken, car alignment was fine for years after. The recent accident is mostly just plastic - I was merging a lane over in stopped traffic and was 1/3rd over when a truck didn't notice I was merging and peeled my headlight and bumper out at 5 mph. Unfortunately, the truck had a kickboard that whacked my wheel and bent the subframe and skipped some steering rack teeth. I'd love to buy it back and sell it to an enthusiast that can get it back together. With junkyard parts and some hunting this should be a pretty reasonable to get back on the road. With all new parts this quickly gets expensive. But it's a long drive away in DE, so tack a big tow charge on there for me to get it, or attempt to store and sell it remotely. And time and space are tight for me. So what should I do with this thing? Any interest? Should I just take the insurance money and run? |
