Like this at an AR-15? Nay for private use, whats the real advantage for you at the end?

An AR is over-gassed from manufacture, meaning more gas is circulated back to action the bolt carrier than is needed. The claim with gas blocks is being able to tune that down to only what is needed to action the bolt carrier enough to strip the next round, that way you're not over traveling the bolt carrier, not wearing out springs as fast, and also keeps it cleaner. Also means with the bolt not being forced harder and farther than it needs, it helps with faster follow-up shots. It makes sense to me, but not sure if it's really beneficial for anyone outside of competition shooting where the rifles sees a lot of use. Is it really going to prolong the life of components for your average user? Then again, they are cheap so it's not like its a bank account breaker. Just wanted opinions or reviews on them. |

Gas blocks are standard on DI ARs. Do you mean adjustable gas blocks?
AFAIK, you only need adjustable gas blocks if you are using a silencer. I don't think I have seen anyone using an adjustable gas block that wasn't running a silencer. |

Yes, this is all correct information. If your AR has a standard A2 front sight the gas block is built into it.

I know from the German MG-5 that it has kinda gasblock, but here this is an internal adjustable orifice, which is normally adjusted to fire the rifle with the long barrel. Theres also a shorter one available to get the weapon at CQB better to work and with the barrel change the orifice has to be readjusted to achieve the best power at usage.
Hadnt done this change until yet but theres a quick adjusting tool enclosed to speed up this.

oh ok.
I'm running Superlative Arms adjustable gas blocks on my 300blk SBR and 6.5 Grendel SBR. I have them tuned to cycle suppressed and unsuppressed. |

I don't run an adjustable, just a standard low profile block |

Maybe alternative calibers need this more than the traditional 556 rifles. |

Different ammo, diff weight/size buffers, different carbine/rifle/mid length gas tube lengths I think are when it's needed.

Adjustable gas blocks are nice to have when running a can, but not required/needed. The silencer could greatly increase the back pressure down the gas tube which could increase the bolt carrier speed which could increase wear on the rifle. The increased bolt cycling speed may cause feeding issues if the magazine spring is weak or out of spec. Also, the increased back pressure from the silencer may result in more gas being blown into your face while shooting. All that to say: an adjustable gas block is nice, but not required. |
