as you can tell I'm still waiting for my RB install
Have a quick read socks, once you get turbos etc you may need maxboost

Should have just kept the jb4!

You'll likely do PI down the road, and Terry is currently working on having this integrated into the JB4 without the need of external controllers.

Terry's advancements into extra safety mechanisms is also second to none, things like monitoring of cylinders, over boosting, afr's in bank 1&2 makes the JB4 worth it's weight in gold.

What is this PI you speak of? Why would one want to install such an upgrade? Tell me more young one :

PI=Port injection

Our fuel system doesn't flow enough fuel for higher power levels + ethanol (ethanol has less energy in it so you need more of it). You can upgrade the LPFP but theres no good upgrade for the high pressure fuel pump. There was a VTT kit that relocated a stock HPFP and ran an undersize pulley to overdrive it but obviously a bit silly since the stock pump is prone to failure anyway.

So to overcome this, people are putting in a manifold in between the intake manifold and cylinder head with another 6 injectors to spray additional fuel into the ports, ie port injection.

Personally I wish there was just a high pressure fuel pump upgrade since port injection is old tech and less precise than direct injection. But on the other hand the port injection only activates above a certain fuel demand so you still enjoy the benefits of direction injection under partial load. The extra fuel will also clean your intake valves and you will probably not need to walnut blast your car anymore (as long as you drive the car hard to activate the port injection lol)

How does another set of injectors spraying in additional fuel not require a better HPFP. If the current HPFP struggles to handle the flow of the current injectors, I cannot see how adding another set of injectors improves the situation. Does the port injection reduce the pressure required from the HPFP to supply the additional volume at the higher revs?

Sorry should have made this clear, the port injectors are fed by the LPFP. A port injection system is like a conventional car that does not require high fuel pressures to operate. It basically augments the high pressure direct injection system.

^^Everything vtl said.

Better fueling, increased knock protection, keeping valves clean, running cooler and added convenience on 100% e85 fill-ups.

Couple of 1'ers are.

I'm waiting on true integration into jb4 before I pull the trigger. Safety is very important to me, rather than the spray and pray method.

PI can be done later socks, I like doing my mods step by step so I know the benefit that each one delivers.

Yeah, the process costs more, but I learn more.

Good point Ink, let me know when you're ready to pull the trigger and we might be able to organise a mini GB

Socket. How is your Vanguard SS Exhaust going? Do you get any drone inside the cabin? Are you happy with it overall (sound, performance, etc)

they are pretty loud but have settled down a bit since the install. On s scale of loudness they are probably a 7. Drone is horrendous but I like it personally, on the upside it has a massiive bark when when put the foot down (like a gunshot sound) and gurgles n pops beautifully in downshifts. I am very happy. Probably drones because the exhaust was designed for a car with primary cats fitted . I've been in the car and it was pretty damn loud in the cabin driving uphill (constant low load)

You can cure the drone with some J pipes, they look like this:

http://ls1tech.com/forums/cadillac-c...l#post17220048
http://flg8cc.com/vb4/showthread.php...nd-application

The exhaust volume will be the same but it will get rid of the drone in the cabin. Here's the formula for calculating the pipe length:

https://www.reddit.com/r/FocusST/com...or_tube_aka_j/

Good idea if you need to make the car more wife/family friendly
