No it will not be out when SharkEdit comes out.

Jim is only a single man, so once SharkEdit comes out he will be spending time filling in the blanks on the documentation until it covers every possible thing. We need to clone him or something.
Goddamnit looks like my lease will be over before either the 81 is cracked or the Shark Injector comes out with 81 capability.

I guess then I am pointing to the fact that the Shark Injector is eta to be determined. I read the FAQ, but I am new to the BMW world so the exact difference in the Shark Injector and Shark Edit is still a bit new to me.

Shark injector would have one map that you inject and it saves your Stock map on that unit, not your PC.

The shark edit would be able to upload multiple maps and save multiple maps via the USB/bluetooth. You would save all maps to your PC and upload them as you need too.

This is how I understand it. I could be very wrong....

Here is another question not answered in the FAQ:

What kind of power numbers do you expect with Jim's base tune? Someone mentioned that he said 80hp @ 12psi....

Is this true?

MSD80 vs MSD81 - Red Herring

Guys, I believe the MSD80 vs MSD81 is a red herring.

I believe the anti-tune countermeasures are in CIP 29.2....

Why? Because I have OCD and spent last night doing some reading on how BMW programs their DMEs.

MSD81 introduces more sensors & testing on Oxygen & Emissions and Misfire but I don't think the anti-tune stuff is located in the hardware.

I just think the inability for Dinan to flash MSD81 has nothing to do with a new encryption scheme, I just don't think Dinan has the new CAN cables / software.....

I hate to use myself as data to prove above (unlike Footie)...but see here for more detailed thoughts....

I am still waiting for Mr. Conforti's reply guys. As I have mentioned before, I will know more when he gets back to me. If he does not want me to share the information he provides me, then I must respect his wish and act professionally. *Sorry*

Socal WILL have a FULLY COMPETENT tuner regardless and I WILL get around the 81 DME even if its at the cost of my own warranty.

So I will be really independent from any other products, all I need is a good tuner who is familiar with Shark Edit to get a high quality custom tune. I hope that the Base Tune can be modified and that it will provide power comparable to the Dinan Stage II flash.

Jim does not have a base tune yet. The flashpaks are nothing more than decriptor files for the stock flash so people can modify that themselves. Right now Jim is working on getting SharkEdit itself ready to rock and roll. We discussed an N54 flash last night and some options, but nothing is set in stone.

I need to say this one more time. (Not for you AW, but for everyone reading this thread as this is a common question)

SharkEdit does NOT come with any "tunes". You start with a the base MSD80 tune and go from there.

I believe it stated that you will be able to modify just about everything in the ecu... but would it be possible to see what everything is? Are there any screenshots of the software available yet? An example for instance... when the car is at a certain temp the ecu will run the water pump more. Is it possible to say set this so the water pump runs more all the time or at least at a different temp?

Also will all the functions in the ecu already be mapped out or will we have to do some mapping for ourselves?

Mat
I'll have to confer with Jim on this. The N54 market is a unique one. I'm sure Jim and I will chat this weekend while we both are staring at his pretty M3.

He doesnt want to release a list of the maps, because for each car it is different (strange, huh). FlashPak1 will contain the maps he deems important to tuning the car with its OEM aspiration. He has been doing this for over a decade now, so the man knows what works and what doesnt. FlashPak2 will have more maps defined that are needed to add boost to an N/A car.

The SharkInjector for the N54 is TBD. BUT, that is with the JimC tune. There will be other reputable tuners who will be able to put their OWN flash on a SharkInjector and send it to you.

Are reputable tuners starting to develop maps for the Shark Edit / Injector already or will they get their equipment earliest on July 1st, like everybody ?

Good to know. I guess there will be quite some demand for high-quality maps for the N54 .

Justin, do you know if there is a difference between:

MSD80 + Progman 29.2

and

MSD81

In terms of its ability, method and code-storing/logging for piggyback detection?

Justin,

Are there any plans to pre-sale Shark Edit ? IMO it could help to handle the probably high demand when Jim releases the product.

Thanks,
Eugen

Thanks Justin. You are really a big help for us here. Jim really knows how to keep himself away from the forums for his own good. Every minute he spend, is super duper valuable for the development of his Shark's products.

I was trying to keep my self away to do better stuff away from a monitor and a keyboard, but JimC news got me all back again.

Thanks Again!!!

for a guy like me its a no brainer. with a lease i dont want dp, the most i might do is get a drop in filter for more air and if i can get a map that gets me 60+ whp and 80+ ft lbs of torque thats all i need. Thats about a 50% performance increase over the SSTT and if i go to a local tuning shop and pay $200-$300 for the tune, then its 1/3 to 1/2 the price plus being a flash its much better than a piggy back. Can't wait. I had an APR stage 1+ on my b6 a4 and was very happy. im guessing this will be very similar for the n54.

Not modifying a leased car is just an excuse

My car is a lease, my last 2 IS300's were leased, and the 2nd IS300 had a race built motor swap with supporting mods all around the car.

Lease.... pshhhh come on now!

the reason i got a lease is to drive the car and enjoy it for less than 3 years then turn it in. i mean just not looking to do more than a great tune. If a tuner can squeeze the most out of my stock engine, thats all i need. If i wanted to really get into adding DPs and all that i woulda bought an EVO, but i bought this car to enjoy a comfortable daily driver with alot of power.
