So I got my first part of the subscription. The samples are 50ml, so bigger that the Drinks By The Dram samples. Came with tasting cards/notes and a coaster.

And it's a 1/2 bottle of the Whistle Pig 10yo Rye, for my "free" bottle.

I'd really only heard good things about Whistle Pig before reading your comment. Are there any Rye you'd recommend? I'm also very new to Rye, and this is only the 2nd bottle in my hoard.

Since this was my 'free' bottle of my membership, this was a chance to try it without spending $70 on a bottle.

So, you're just not a fan of rye whiskey, then?

Perhaps I could recommend angel's envy rye but the price is really high... and yes not a fan of rye.

I like the Angels Envy, but I'm not sure it's worth the price. I'm enjoying the Michters Rye I just got, so who knows.

Sounds like you are just not a rye fan as Whistlepig 10 is good, just expensive for what it is.

If you like Michters you will likely enjoy the Whitlepig 10 as well. Some others to check out would be Pikesville Rye, EH Taylor Rye, Sagamore Rye, New Riff Single Barrel Rye, Willet 4y Rye. If looking for a budget rye, I recommend the Old Forrester Rye, Wild Turkey Rye and the Pikesville Rye mentioned above is probably the best value.

In the affordable realm - I'd also advocate for George Dickel rye. It's MGP juice, just like many far more expensive ryes, though a year or two younger, I believe. For the price, it represents pretty impressive value (along with your suggestions, especially the WT rye which is consistently overlooked), IMO.

While I am much more a proper scotch guy than a bourbon guy, this stuff blew me away when I stopped by on the way home from work yesterday. The coffee infused rum was also outstanding. Bought a bottle of each. Highly recommend.

My friend got this at home cask kit and says he likes what he has made so far. Has anyone tried this?

I need to come back around and give Balvenie another try. I gave one of their sample packs a shot many months ago before I really knew what I was tasting. They were 'good' but nothing stood out. Perhaps I need to check again.

Thanks.

I've never heard of it. Will have to see if my local store has it in stock. Remember I live in the middle of nowhere, lol.

Appreciate the recommendation and will check it out.
Give the Balvenie 12yr Doublewood a shot. Right around the price point you looking at. It's a good whisky I'd say for the price.

Guess I'll be drinking a few drams tonight that's for sure... my option expirations for tomorrow got completely wiped out in 1 day due to this blood bath market today. Will not say how much, but it's a good amount.

Cheers to everyone drinking tonight.

Nice lineup. I'm curious to hear how the 46 cask strength is. I really like the regular cask strength, haven't seen that one around me yet.

I got the 46 CS last year in a CS sample pack from Makers and really liked it. Just a stronger 46 pretty much.

Since they are CS they will differ from batch to batch slightly. I'll update when I have tried this one as well.

After a week of...ahem...liver vacation...I'm back to my beloved Jameson. I've bounced around through several different Scotches and bourbons, but my taste buds and wallet have reached a pretty persistent equilibrium on Jameson. Preferred taste meets preferred price point, I guess.

Sometimes you just like what you like! I have some friends that still just drink black velvet... that is one that I can't understand.
