It's interesting that there's little news about what happens with all the tyres especially full wets that are surplus to requirements after seasons end, with new compounds being born for the fresh season the old and used ones are sent to re-cycling and shredded into small pellets which are then used as fuel in cement factories.
The rubber from worn or unused previous season tyres are not used in some way for the new compounds.

So it has to be something at Mercedes itself that made her leave. Because it was all pretty suddenly, she didn't even forfill the season I believe, so I can only conclude an 'event' made her leave.

Ferrari ‘erasing Lewis Hamilton’s memory’ as extreme simulator details emerge:
— Ferrari is reportedly using extreme simulator techniques to help Lewis Hamilton adapt to his new team and erase muscle memory from his Mercedes career.
— Hamilton has begun driving Ferrari’s end-of-season 2024 car specification with deliberate tweaks to suspension, engine maps, and load levels to disrupt his sensory memory of Mercedes systems.
— Ferrari’s simulator, said to be more advanced than Mercedes’, aims to help Hamilton adjust by mentally eliminating differences provided by the hydraulic actuators and mathematical models.
— Reports indicate Hamilton has been making direct comparisons between Ferrari’s 2024 car and the 2025 Project 677 chassis during simulator sessions.
— Ferrari holds briefings with Hamilton before and after each simulator run to gather feedback on setup preferences and vehicle dynamics.
— Familiar faces at Ferrari, including Fred Vasseur, Angela Cullen, and Jerome d’Ambrosio, may help Hamilton transition smoothly.
— Hamilton is expected to test privately in Barcelona next week before unveiling Ferrari’s new livery alongside Charles Leclerc in London on February 18.
— Project 677 will be launched on February 19, with Hamilton and Leclerc conducting a shakedown test at Fiorano before pre-season testing in Bahrain.

All this to drive an F1 car, seems not too long ago we didn't have this sim brain drain nonsense and you just got on with it as best you could.

Sims are for video game generation. My understanding is Hamilton hates it.

It’s a cost saving measure - why allow them to drive a real car and risk crashing, costs for fuel and tires, when you can have the artificial flavor version.

I'm glad he hates it and I'd go as far to say that these training sims are silly and time wasting. You learn on the track in real time, you already have the feeling from the kart days and with the money involved in F1, tires and fuel are a drop in the ocean.

^^ Yes we're all looking forward to the Aussie race at Albert Park, it can't come soon enough once the car launches and testing are out of the way.
Do you have a favourite team/driver you support?

I believe the teams are not allowed to practice/test since 2009. This was done to prevent teams with private tracks or endless resources to have an advantage. That’s what lead to the development of simulators to help develope and setup the cars.

I know that. I meant official on-track testing where the teams are allowed a certain time limit before race, and I still don't agree with sim set up's for a particular driver.

I don't see what is really to be learned by a sim, from a driver's perspective. Maybe from a big picture manufacturing standpoint, but as a driver, feedback loops just aren't the same as driving a car. They can't really simulate acceleration, deceleration, turning g-forces, etc. Sure, they could tip the chair or whatever to give you a feel for it, but it's not even close to what they're feeling when in the real car.

I see it as two completely distinct talents, and while there might be overlap, I don't think being a star on a sim means you'll be good on track, and vice versa.
