My auto E91 definitely starts in 2nd gear from a stop.

Yes, sorry. I have the same '09 with GM. Yes, in manual mod it downshifts to 2nd at a stop. Auto mode I guess goes to 1st. I don't really know.

In auto it only shifts down to second. For fuel economy purposes I believe. Leaves it feeling a bit slow. I’ve had people say they thought the transmission was bad because of the way it takes off.
Manual/sport Auto mode drops to first. Full manual drops to second. |

Oh, and if you were wondering what Max has been up to? Not exactly a wagon, but I love it! https://www.hagerty.com/media/car-pr...-coupe-safari/

My take on F30 (I had a 328i sedan, RWD 8AT M Sport) was that objectively it was a great car - lots of power, lots of room inside, great fuel economy, all the modern niceties. But somehow, it felt a bit underwhelming.
It wasn't just the engine sound, I think the quality of the interior plastics was also a pretty significant step down, there's a ton of rattles, steering feel was questionable at best, and the suspension tuning just wasn't as good as on previous generations (pretty crashy over rough pavement, but also not particularly reassuring to push into corners). I'd vastly prefer to drive an E9x or an E46 over the F3x. But hard to deny the practicality and livability of the F31.

So I have had two F30 335i, an F80 M3 and am on my second F31 - although this one is probably a long term daily, as Eric from Garage Welt had it fully dialed when I bought it...my mods usually just include a shadowline grill, window tint and wheel change lol.
Over the years, I have also owned an e90 335i, two M sport e91s, and am currently buying my third e90 M3 coming in a week or two. Going back and forth between generations, I can attest that the e9x generation heavy hydraulic steering is amazing, the engines are more engaging and sound way better, and they're the right size for sure. Stock seating position in the e9x with power seats is too high; manual drops you down 1.5" which makes all the difference in the world. The materials in the cabin are also a higher quality, and feel more solid overall - despite the creaks. I think overall, if my F31 had a B58 and a manual in it, it would be the one car quiver I long for. As a kid hauler daily, I am a sucker for the tech, as well as the LED lights which (functionally and aesthetically) make all the difference in the world. As all of aforementioned cars (aside from the two f31) have been manuals, I think that is currently the biggest item I've been missing in my life. I can attest that the 4cyl engine, combined with a resonator delete and dual tip MPE, sounds amazing compared to stock. Pops, burble, great drone-free tone...pretty damn good. The e90 M3 coming is a 55k mile stripper with slick top, manual, single hump, ZCP, and manual seats. Only thing missing from a true stripper are the speedcloth seats. In much the same manner as e91's are being kept these days and driven into the ground by enthusiasts, I have a feeling e90/92 M3 prices are going to pop in the coming years for prime examples. Watching closely (as most of us are) the prime lemans example on BAT - so curious if it will go higher than the example two weeks back. Who knows - at this rate, maybe yet another lemans RWD M sport 6MT wagon will show up next week with 30k miles...lol. Last edited by Inglewood; 07-13-2021 at 10:11 AM.. |

I totally agree. Every now and then I still push to button down to see if it'll go down any more. I'm 6'4", and my head almost touches the ceiling. I do wish the power seats would go lower.

It's heating up. Surpassed the previous LMB a few weeks ago with over an hour left!

E91s For Sale
Great input on the F3X VivG and Inglewood
It's the classic balance between modern conveniences (and power) in a DD and the old school "feel" from the previous generation(s)

Sorry if this has been shown already. Too far for me, but looked up the VIN - shows M Sport package - AWD, 6 speed. Washington state
https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistor...uu3c58ba544934 I did try to look through the last couple of pages of threads and did a search and didn't see this one. No pictures, but should be an honest to goodness M Sport |

6 months ago, my 12 RWD auto, kicker - 48k miles, showed up on CarMax. Just showed up, I paid the $99 to have it shipped. Did the 24 hour test drive and I wasn't scared to buy it because I had 30 days, 15,000 miles to return it. I do still own it, but I could have returned it! These cars, with low miles, don't last long out there in the wild!

Yeah, wow! Wasn't me. Hopefully, the new owner will come here soon. But wow, that's a pretty hi bar.
