I also find most people (including myself) have very little "material" to say to someone they've never met, since they have zero knowledge about their personality. Most who know me in person would say I'm funny, but that's because I develop a deeper understanding of what they like and what makes them laugh. The first thing I say to someone I know nothing about is usually just garbage.

There's a lady at one of the buildings I frequent for work who is a receptionist. Our first meeting she probably thought I was quiet, polite, etc. I got to know her a bit, and now I literally make her laugh every time I come in with witty one liners.

I use humor a lot too. Helps both people relax into the date and not be so guarded. I usually break the ice with my joke about how you make a dog stop humping your leg, and go from there.

That's just my go to intro created by yours truly. It works well. Nothing will work 100% of the time, obviously.

"So, this guy is stuck on a island with Hillary Clinton and a German Shepard..."

If anyone knows the end of this joke, please fill it in. A group of 8 guys were on their annual golf trip in the front cabin and having a good old time. They included everyone in on the fun but, of course, there was one sourpuss in the cabin. After a couple of near-ribald jokes, the aforementioned joke line starts and the sourpuss, a woman, stands up and says, "Enough! I can't take anymore of this stupid, guy-humor!!! I just want to enjoy the flight!!" The entire cabin goes silent and the F/A gives us all a baleful look. After a beat I say, sotto voce, "But I want to hear the end of the joke". The entire cabin starts laughing but for the harpy and we eventually settle down.

So...if anyone knows the rest of this joke, I'd appreciate hearing the end.
